Walking Sticks

I’ve been exploring a bit.  Nothing crazy, but I’ve been walking around the neighborhood and area we live.  I’ll pick a direction and just head out.  I go about 1.5-2km and just walk.  See what I see.  When and if I get hungry, I get lunch, or coffee, or a snack.  Then I head home.  I’ve also been exploring the train.  Again, nothing crazy, but one of the places I grocery shop is just off the train line, so I’ve been making little trips and getting a feel for that.  The train is amazing.  Fast, efficient, clean, safe, on time, and all of the other good adjectives.  Seriously, I loved the BTS in BKK.  This puts it to shame.  Also, my round trip is about 70 cents!  It is beyond cost effective.  Considering a car was running me about $2.25 each way and I thought that was good.  So, I’ve been wandering about.  Seeing the things to see. The weather helps with that.  If my old chum X from Da Scene eve...

Colorful math

Life is short.  And we have one go at it.  A lifetime is a long time, but when you think about it, it’s really not that much time.  I almost had my ticket punched in my 20s and at 41, so maybe I’m more sensitive to that than most people, but I do think about stuff like that.  And not in a political or “we need to do more with life” kind of way.  In… IDK.  In a way.  Read to the end, you’ll see. I’ve been doing some napkin math recently.  I thought some of you might enjoy that; some of you for the math, some for the insights into my thoughts, and some just for the fun of it. The average person lives approximately 80 years.  However, the start of life is focused on growing, developing, and becoming.  Let’s call that the first 5 years.  That leaves us with a 75 year period. I’ve read that “you sleep a third of your life.”  Yeah yeah.  A lot of that is in those end years and first years; I’d say most people are more like...

Stomping in place

We spent the last week celebrating Labor Week here.  It’s not just a day, but a whole week of celebrating the labor and industry that makes China go and be.  It was a week of no school and hanging out.  I’m going to let the pics do more of the talking, but I will give some highlights. First and foremost— I finally updated my shoes.  Not just one pair either.  Three pairs.  Found an outlet mall and great pricing.  I’ve ordered some laces and those should be arriving today (hopefully) so I can really have some fun with them.  I tried to use my old laces, but they aren’t long enough, so I upgraded a few pair of laces.  The nice part is, the old laces still fit a pair, so I can have some fun with one of them. Kiddo also go a shoe upgrade.  She needed something that wasn’t trainers (sneakers for the US folk) and since she was with me, I picked her up some new kicks. I had intended to browse for myself, even if it was just to size mysel...
