It's a puzzling quote
Learning language, as a child, is a multifaceted thing; it’s repetition, but also seeing, hearing, reading, and using the language. Kids “say the darnedest things” because they heard or misheard something and are attempting to use that language. We’ve got a lot of examples of this with Kiddo— Taflingos, cucas and cuncumbers, Pasragus, pharmaseat, etc etc.
Last night, we got another one.
To set it up, we’ve dropped Netflix and currently have AppleTV+. We’re digging it so far. Ted Lasso was so good and fun to watch. Tiny World was super well done and cool and something we could sit around and watch with Kiddo. We’re now onto Big Beasts with Kiddo and it’s super fun. It’s about 30 min and all about large animals - gorillas, hippos, polar bears (which Poley also really liked), and the like.
Last night, as we were talking about which episode to watch and the run of the night, J and I agreed that Kiddo could have a treat with the show, but only after shower and then we could watch something and do tuck ins and love and all that.
So, let me get this right…. We can watch Giant Otters and I can have a treat, but only after I QUOTE ON QUOTE take a shower.
Quote on quote. That might be one of my favorite Kiddoisms of all time. If you think about it from a 7 year old’s perspective, it makes total sense. J, much to my dismay, corrected Kiddo and told her the correct way to say it, but I had to document it for all time, because I couldn’t love it more. Sorry, I quote on quote couldn’t love it more.
Speaking of practice, we took Kiddo to drum practice on Sunday. She has lessons Thursdays, but we can schedule a time and bring her in to practice, so we usually try to get a weekend time slot so she can bang around for a bit. She wanted me to oversee her practice time this weekend, so J got to chill at Da Bux across the street and have a coffee and some read time. I got some vids. Just wanted to share one. Also to brag on Kiddo for a min. She can play 5 Little Ducks on tempo. That’s 105 bpm. When she started she wasn’t able to maintain 30 beats per min. Really proud of her for this.
An added bonus of weekend practice with Kiddo is a new dumpling place opened up right downstairs and next door from where she practices. They have soup dumplings that are worthy. Also some amazing spring rolls. Hand pulled noodles in a soup that Kiddo digs. We’ve also tried their wantons and those bad boys were awesome as well.
I mentioned, in the last post, that J and I are puzzling together. We started on 01 January and spent about an hour on it and then another hour that night. Last night, J wanted to puzzle again and I love puzzles so no complain from this guy. We spent about another 90 minutes on it. I think we are making some good progress and it’s fun to just put on music and sit and chat and puzzle and be. Can’t wait until J is over the cold and on break and we can do this with a glass of wine. It’s a nice time and I’m enjoying just being in her company and doing a puzzle.
Let’s go, Kiddo… We’ve got a full weekend upcoming and then a week of half days until break. We can’t wait for break and just hanging out with you. Sleeping in. Watching more shows with you. Doing practice as a family and eating more Chinese food; we can maybe try the new spot you and I saw yesterday and see if it is hot pot or something different and see what we think of that. I’m so proud of you and your drumming, schooling, learning, loving life, and just the whole of your Kiddoness.
