Double Focused

We just had Labor Day here and so the girls had a 5 day weekend.  It was nice to have a little time off, you could see them both decompress a bit; especially as we get toward the end of the year.  They both needed a little time to just not.  We also were able to get some errands done.  J and I needed to see an optometrist to get our glasses updated.  J’s eyes didn’t change at all, but she did get a new RX and new frames, so that’s a plus.  For me….


Sigh!


47 and it’s time for the bifocals.  


So, I guess I’m officially old now.  There was much teasing from the girls, but it was good natured.  Also, it’s not like I didn’t know it was coming.  It’s just one of those things.  I do have to say, I can’t wait for my glasses to be ready.  It’ll be some nice to read and look up and not have to take my glasses on and off to see whatever it is that I’m trying to focus on.  As for my frames, pics will come once glasses received.


The day after that, I was home sick.  I got the cold that was going around.  J and Kiddo headed out to the botanical garden that is near us and had some play time.  There is a park next to the gardens, so Kiddo got some run around time as well.  She slept like the dead that night, so that was a perk.  Also, the cold I got was short lived.  I took it easy the rest of the weekend, but I’m back at it today.










Yesterday (Monday) Kiddo got out with her friend H and her family and got to go to the Safari Park.  She came home with many tales of how cool and fun it is.  We can’t wait for the end of the school year and we can take a family trip with her to see it.  Sounds like a blast and we can get some pics as well.  


Other than that, Kiddo gets to do drums twice this week.  Today and Thursday.  With Labor Day, the drum school was closed Thursday and so today is the make up lesson.


Also, Everest, our rambunctious turtle as gone on to the great pond in the sky.  No idea why or what caused this, as Granite is doing just fine.  We had some tears, but moved on from that.  Turtles are social creatures, so we will go on Saturday and get a new friend for Granite.  


Let’s go, Kiddo…. It’s back to school after a break and I know you didn’t want to, but you did great to get ready and have a positive attitude this morning. In about 5 weeks, you get your summer break and we get to have a family trip and you get to experience the bullet train.  We are super excited to adventure with you this summer and we love you.

Welcome to the bifocal club! Ha, ha. I made it to this year as well (age 52), and I actually have two pairs -- one for near/medium (computer work) and one for near/far (regular life). Also, condolences on the turtle loss. Glad you'll be looking for another companion for Granite.

Weird day after Christmas here.  The girls only had the one day off.  They will get 4 weeks for Chinese New Years and a week of half days leading up to that, but it’s strange having the house to myself and have so much quiet the day after Christmas.   Not that I’m complaining.  I’ve got a desk to build today, as Kiddo really wanted a desk and chair for Xmas and she got one.  On top of that she got a bunch of books and some new soft friends to cuddle with… Including a cat.  That’ll pretty much complete her collection, but I’m sure we’ll learn of new friends needed/wanted in the days and weeks to come.  Also, she has asked for a pet fish and has done well to keep her room tidy and show responsibility over the last 6 weeks, so come CNY break, she will get getting a pet fish as well.  So, there’s that. The Party

Sunday came and with it an early wake up time.  Kiddo was in at 7am to “check and see” if we were awake.  We were not , but we got up for her.  I want to note here, she will let us sleep in on Xmas and will have breakfast and  allow us coffee while presents sit under the tree with no complaints.  Sunday was - when are we going finish decorating, when can we blow up the balloons, only 4 hours until my party, now it’s only three and a half hours, etc etc etc.   She was all about the birthday party. It was fun.  It was wild… ish.  With a half dozen 8/9 year old girls running about, I expected the volume to be something akin to rock concert or jet taking off.  It was not.  I will credit them all that.  They were great.  Fun.  It got excited, but not out of control.  Also, I gotta say… Kiddo picked out some cool friends.  They are interesting, curious, respectful, and they cleaned up after themselves.  Literal...

One SHELL of a weekend.

The weather for the last week has been absolutely astounding.  Just perfect.  It has been 25-27 degrees (76-81F) pretty much daily for the last week.  The only problem is that today it’s supposed to be 32.5 (91F) and tomorrow the forecast calls for 18 and rain (64F).  A huge swing.  Then, we get a week of that before more wonderful spring time weather.  It’s better (IMHO) than the hot, hotter, or raining and hot of BKK.  So, I’ll look on the bright side. More bright side is that we mourned the fish, but we replaced them with two turtles.  Driving home with them, one was super active and trying to climb out of the bag and the other was docile and chilling.  The climber was named Everest and the chill one got named Granite.  They seem happy enough and Kiddo is loving having something a little more active and interactive than fish.  Not that she’s taking them out on walks or anything, but they will move, chill in the water, love the ...
