Melting summer

The summer is closing for us and school will start again soon.  Part of me is excited for this and part of me isn’t.  I’ll miss the lazy days and sleeping in, but I’m also looking forward to getting back into the routine of things.  It’ll be easier for me to get some of the work I’m doing done when I don’t need to juggle Kiddo and J in the mix and I can just have my 8 hours a day.

We’ve been making the most of the end of summer, though.  Climbing, Museums, we’ve done 3 play days with good friend H, now that she’s back from the UK and before her brief trip to Seoul before the start of the school year.  We’ve just been having some fun, either as a family or with friends.

It’s been a great summer.  We really got to explore a bit.  Getting into the mountains was a wonderful treat.  Quiet the experience.  High speed train, plus getting to a place that a lot of the Chinese people we know have said that they haven’t gotten to in their lives.  So, having gone there and seeing that it is more rare than we think, it was wonderful.  Beautiful as well.  Just stunning.

Very soon now, I will be a year older.  Where does the time go?

First thing; J and I talked about me going back to BKK for my birthday.  To see some of the people we know there, to eat some of the food I’ve been missing, and to just have a few days to relax and not be house dad in charge of kid and cooking and life and all.  Those plans didn’t work out for a number of reasons, but that’s ok.  We found a fallback.  I’m going to go to HCMC (Saigon) for a few days alone.  It is, if not my favorite city in the world, certainly in the top 3 for me.  I love the food, coffee, people, feel, smell, and vibe of the city.  I’m not planning on doing much besides relaxing and reading a bunch, drinking a bunch of craft beers, and eating a ton of Pho.  After our last summer and the epic round the world vacation we took, we had a ton of miles saved up, so I spent about 20% of those on the trip and I’m going to go for just spending cash.  In HCMC, that’s not a lot.  I’m also getting a new tattoo there.  I won’t spoil the surprise, but check back in mid-September to see that.  I’m stoked with the design of it and can’t wait to see it once it’s completed.

On the theme of getting older and art, I wanted to take a moment to congratulate my good friend and one of the best artists I know; Jay.  I recently found of that he’s not just good buddy Jay anymore, he’s good buddy GRANDPA Jay.  Whhhaaaaaaaat!?!  Jay, if you read this, congrats and the little nugget is so cute!  Enjoy it and hugs from us on this end.

I’ll be better once school starts again about posting here, but for this summer, it was time for family and catch ups, not weekly posts.  Besides that, my projects are still all in the works and going well, so I’m shooting for 3-4 posts a month moving forward.  Just a heads up.

Let’s go, Kiddo…. School is back in about a week and you are going into Grade 3.  Where did the time go?  When did you get so big?  What will you learn and who will you meet this year?  There is so much to see and do, learn and grow, to experience and become.  It’s been a great summer with you and I look forward to the next adventure we get to have.
