A break in the adventure

After almost a week in Saigon, we made our way to Da Nang and that’s been mostly great so far.  The one bad part is, on our last day in Saigon, I slipped and my toe twisted under me and I (think) I broke the toe.  It’s getting better, but I would bet that there’s a hairline fracture in the toe.  So, I’ve been icing and taping it, as there’s not much more that can be done for it, but it’s been a pain…. HAHAHA

That aside, we’ve been having a great time.  The food has been great, although a bit more western than in Saigon.  Da Nang certainly has a bit more of a Euro feel to it.  Day one and that was mostly a day of flying and airports.  The airport is, for the most part, just fine, but it’s the airline that holds our distain.  VietJet has a special place in hell for those that offer atrocious service for inflated prices and nothing runs on time.  An hour late is an hour early in VietJet time.

Once we made it, the order of the dat was finding food.  Easy enough to do and we did.  After that, we settled in and got some rest, as we knew the trip here was going to be a million miles an hour.  The next day here, we made our way to Hoi An and got shoes and clothing for the girls.  I, with toe not good, wasn’t in the mood to stomp around and look for clothing.  Besides, I don’t need clothes.  J, however, being 5’11 and living in SEA for the last 5ish years hasn’t found a pair of pants that come all the way down in years.  So, she wanted to have some pants made so they actually fit.  Kiddo had a dress in mind and why not.

That took up most of the day and while the girls shopped, I found a little coffee shop and just sank into the Kindle for a while.  The coffee and atmosphere were amazing.  The temps were perfect.  I got 90 minutes to read and caffeinate and just be.  While there, we revisited a taco place we ate at last time we were here and it was just as good.  There’s something to be said for Mexican food in Vietnam.  Can’t find good stuff in Thailand or China, but come to Vietnam and suddenly we have more good Mexican than we know what to do with in the two weeks we are here.

We had a lazy morning the next day, but it was overcast and threatening rain, although it never did.  After a morning of not much, we headed back into Hoi An in the afternoon to pick up the shoes and clothes and then go to 7 Bridges for beers and dinner.  The food and beers are BEYOND good so that was a treat.  We kind of made an afternoon and evening of it and then it was bedtime by the time we got home.

Today we spent the morning on the beach.  The weather, again, was perfect and couldn’t ask for better.  Just hot enough to enjoy the water, not hot enough to make it uncomfortable.  Kiddo, for her part, didn’t care about any of that.  She just wanted to play.  And play.  And play.  So she did.  To the max.  We’re going to be rinsing sand out of her nooks and crannies for the next month.  She was in the water, the sand, both at the same time…. She had sand in her suit, hair, eyes, toes; everywhere.  She got her money’s worth of beach and it didn’t even cost anything.  She, however, wasn’t going to be short changed.  HAHA

Now, the girls are off on an adventure and I found a coffee shop to have a salted coffee and write this.  They are visiting the Lady Buddha.  There are some trails and museums and stuff like that and they are, I’m sure, having a ball and a little more girl time, as I enjoy coffee and catching up with this.

There will be a major pic dump in the next few days before we hit our mystery location and then pics and info on that, but for now, a few teasers of what we’ve been up to and we hope you all are enjoying keeping up with us as much as we are enjoying our trip.

Let’s go, Kiddo…. There is Vietnamese food to eat tonight and then some sandy toes time under the moon.  Tomorrow is more beach and fun before we head out to our last stop on this amazing trip.  Thanks for making it all the better in adventuring with us.
