A park, some sand, still HK stuff, and some vids of Kiddo
The girls are back in school and I’ve been catching up on life and a few things here. I needed to restock on my meds and Lunar New Year is a thing here, so a lot of the stores and markets I use daily were closed for the last two weeks of February. We could still get food and stuff, but we were getting that from the big places and corporate places and we’d rather not. On top of that, the food isn’t as good; The apples aren’t as sweet or are a bit mealy, carrots are flavorless, and it’s all mass produced stuff. Heck, even the bananas…. I got J some bananas before we left and by day 3ish, they were use it or lose it. I got her some bananas last week and it was a bunch of 4 and we still have one left and it’s still edible, but probably only for another day or two. That’s what I mean… It’s all made to last, not to taste good. So, getting restocked on apples and oranges and grapes, getting back to the day to day routine of buying produce that day, because it won’t last until the next, because it’s farm fresh and not nitrogen gas packed to preserve it forever. Things have been a little busier than usual here.
We’ve also had some fun. Some of that will have to wait until I get the pics and vids from J, but for now, I can tell you about going to Century Park and just spending some time as a family. The weather got cold this week, but it’s been lovely before that. Made for a nice outing for the day. We walked around and got to ride some rides at the park. Kiddo was a blast and she was so chatty…. Telling us about how she was so nervous to ride the rollercoaster and swings and all that. My toe is getting better, but after the day of walking, it was a bit sore. Slowly but surely.
There was also some bubbles. Some sand play. All in all, it was a bunch of family time. Kiddo did get a day with H and that was a blast for her. They went to a trampoline play place type thing. Kiddo came home and chewed our ears for about 30 minutes in excitement… Both about seeing her friend after almost a month and also about the slides, swings, trampolines, running, jumping, candy, sugar, chocolate, et al that she had that day.
Switching gears from life here now, I never really gave a brief on Hong Kong.
We had some fun moments in Hong Kong. We visited a museum and that was lovely. A real well done place. Well thought. Well designed. Well run. Cost was good, it was about $31USD for the three of us. 5 floors. Interactive. We were there for about 4 hours and didn’t get to half of it. It was super cool.
In the previous post with all the pics, we took a lot of snaps in HK. The city is gorgeous. Unique architecture. A mix of nature and city. Lots of hiking and trails. Victoria Harbour and Peak. The cool swing thing that Kiddo got to go on in the park by the waterfront. The waterfront…. In and of itself. The hilly streets. Buildings that looked like the were growing out of other buildings with the hills and elevation changes.
Then there was the food. Everything we ate was great. Dumplings. Pork Belly and half a goose. Ice creams. Noodles and ramen. It was GOOD! My biggest complaint, as I posted earlier, is coffee. How does this place run without coffee before 9am?????
All in all, we liked HK, but didn’t love it. It just didn’t vibe with us. It was cool, but there’s about 10 places that I’d want to see before going back. And after those 10 places, I could probably mention another 10 that I’d rather see before HK again. I’m not saying I hate the place. You wanna pay for me or us to go back, I’d be happy to go, but for my dollar, I’d see somewhere else first.
However, we did see it. Experience it. We explored it as much as we could in our time there. The peak and harbour. J and Kiddo went for a hike, which my toe limited me, so that was a bummer. The waterfront. A museum. About a dozen eateries, the little local places, that we got to see and taste. It was cool, but it’s not something that made our REPEAT THIS NEXT YEAR list, where Saigon did. Just us. We can see why others dig HK, but for us, we enjoy other places more.
Back to life here, I can’t wait for my next post. We gave Kiddo an experience this last weekend before heading back to school. It was something that I didn’t get as a kid, J either, and we wanted to give Kiddo the experience and so we made a day of it. I hope to get that posted before Friday, but we shall see.
Let’s go, Kiddo…. Back to the grind, but we are in the back end of it. One more year after that and then we’ll be moving again. To where… We don’t know yet, but we know what we are targeting and we know your thoughts and top 3 list, so Mumma is gonna get to work on that over the summer and next September and October to find the next job. As an added bonus, we are looking at the summer and Thailand, but also getting back to Vietnam next February for the break and spending more time there. Maybe J will even find a job there. Time will tell. For now, keep bing you and keep Poley safe from Dinos!
