Razor's Edge
As mentioned, we did the Green Day Night Market on Friday. It’s our newest thing with Kiddo. She can stay up late and go out on Friday nights and skip her shower and just be kid staying up late stinky and lazy Saturday morning following. It’s been fun. About a million things to do in BKK on Friday nights, so we should have a lot of fun with it as the days tick past. We just got a hot plate and meat/vegi to add and cooked and ate Korean BBQ Style. It was nice. Here’s some pics.
Other than that, I’ve been thinking a lot about life in Thailand. How we needed to change deodorant brand, how we can’t get Pepto, about how hard it was finding razors to shave with and how I just want something simple to shave with. That thought took me back to a rant I wrote about 20 years ago. I was dating Bena. It was a rant about Razors. Shaving my head and beard seems to be the bane of my existence. HAHA
But, that got me thinking about my buddy Jay. He had a website way back then and I did some writing and contributions for him. The razor rant was one of them. Strangely, I’m back in touch with Jay after years of minor contact. But, when you know someone for 30+ years and he has kids and a family and you live in CA and then have a kid and move to BKK and life and time zones, etc etc etc etc etc etc. That’s a lot of Etc! However, I’m strangely back in touch with Jay and again ranting about Razors. Maybe there’s something to that?????
Jay is back to being the funky, fun, goofball artist that I remember from all those years agone. You don’t need to take my word for it either. Check it out yourselves. You can do that here. jasonasala.bigcartel.com and knowing Jay, you can use the code ADAM at check out for a 10% INCREASE in price. HAHAHA. Seriously, if you check him out and use the code ADAM, I’m sure Jay will be good enough to include a bonus to your purchase. It may be a bent bottle cap, diet coke pull tab, or a straw wrapper, but hey…. Free it free!
Razors. Right. My point is Razors.
Well, not razors, per say, but daily hygiene items. The tough part is that it’s always in Thai. So, some of it is guessing at what flavor or scent or just what we are getting. Mach 3, Triple Blade, 3 in one, what will fit what. I think, twice now, I’ve bough Razor heads that don’t fit the handles we have, even though they are the same brand. Sometimes the store brand or generic fits, but we can’t read the packaging, so it’s guesswork.
It’s a particularly odd feeling. Buying razors or soap or deodorant and thinking, Well, I hope this works/smells ok/isn’t too yuck.
Same with laundry. Cleaning supplies. You know what I mean. You have your brands. Scents. Preferences. We did too.
Then we moved. None of those brands are here. Or if they are, packaging is different. Or Asian Taylor Swift cutouts will tempt you with unknown products. So, it’s a mystery most of the time and we get what we get.
There is some fun in that. The unknown. Some frustration. Some whimsy.
But, that’s life. That’s part of this adventure. That’s the price of admission. And, we can spend a fortune getting familiar stuff shipped or brought in for us, or we can accept, try, and change.
And, the gentrification continues. Man, they are gonna have this done by Thursday at the rate they are going. But, if they can change a multi-million dollar mall display overnight, I don’t see why tearing down a building and market/shop area and recreating and rebuilding a whole new market shouldn’t take the Thai people about 40 hours to complete. Cuz, I gotta tell you; These are some industrious Mother….
Ok, Ok… watch my language. But, see yesterday’s post about the heat and weather. These guys are busting ass. On a Sunday. They started at 7:30am. They will quit at 6pm. That’s a full day.
Oh, before I go today…. Anyone got suggestions? Anything you want us to see or topics that you’d like me to dig deeper into. Curiosities? Let us know and we will try our best. I mean, we have 29ish months left, if not more and depending on if we want to stay or move to a different country and market. But then, we’ll have all new adventures there. Seriously though, if you have comments, suggestions, or just curiosities… Use the comments section and we will do our best.
