Well, that only took 116 days.

It’s 117 days into 2023 and we had our first real rain yesterday.  It was a solid rain, not torrential or outrageous and it lasted about an hour.  Just a solid rain.  Not even a lot of thunder or lightening.  Some, but not like a real full throated thunderstorm.   Today, we are back to hot and humid with little chance of rain, but the rains are coming and will scatter and smatter until then, but the rains will come.  It will continue to be hot and humid, but at least the rains will help that and knock that down bringing pockets of cool or bearable temps and weather.   Kiddo loved it.  She was thrilled and made it a point to talk about that with J and me last night.  She also mentioned that she can’t wait until it thunders and lightenings at night so she can fall asleep with her curtains open and watch the rain.  In fact, she went as far as to wish we could live in the jungle in a treehouse that was a nice tree house, but shaped like...

I spy... a broken plate

The last two nights, I’ve gotten a 2am visitor.  The problem…. She hasn’t even been asleep yet.  Now, I’m the night owl in the house, so I’m (usually) the last to turn in for the night.  Besides turning off the AC, checking the lock on the door, and all that other end of night stuff, I poke my head in and look at sleeping beauty before I creek (Long story, ask Monk Monk) into our room and turn in.  So, at 2am, roused from sleep because “I can’t even sleep yet” makes me just smile.  The other half of me wants to open the window and fling her out.  LOL  She’s just waking, so I’m on her and it.  Mostly we just calm down, have a sip of water, get up to use the loo, readjust sounds and lights, get a Dada tuck and cuddle, and by then the yawns are coming on strong and fast.  Last night, I am 99% sure that she was back asleep before I got up from kneeling on the floor where I was just stroking her hair.   I don’t know about you, but getting u...

Day 3 of (being) 6

Image
The title is obviously a play on words.  I want to point this out, because some might notice that I didn't do 6 straight posts about Kiddo and being 6.  To this I say; It's because she's only just six and the year has a long way to go.  However, seeing as we are already on our 3rd of 6 and it's only (almost) a week past her birthday.  Expect to get 6 of 6, but maybe there will be more or monthly or something.  Kiddo is too darned cute and funny to pass up the opportunities.   But, I've taken enough of your time.  Enjoy!

Heat, weeds, and summer plans

This last Saturday was an odd day.  It was hot and humid.  Overcast and looking like rain.  We got some sprinkles off and on during the day, but no real rain.  We’ve had rain 4 times so far this year.  Before Saturday, all the rain we got was a brief night shower, but nothing sustained.  It is hot and humid.  Uncomfortably so.  The rains will come, we have no worry of that.  However, we do wonder if this is just storing it all up for a torrential torrent of rain once the rainy season starts. Slow moving and stay in shade.  We are getting some good sun umbrellas, time to upgrade that and maybe get a rain poncho for Kiddo since it will be rainy before she’s done for the year.  Other than that, we are crushing water and gatorade these days.   Today, forecasts say 40ish degrees C (103-105F) and as I write this at 10:30am, it’s already 35.5C (96F) so it’s gonna be a HOT day.  Thankfully, I pick up Kiddo today from school an...

Day 2 of (being) 6

I’ll let the pics and vids do the talking (for the most part) today.  Kiddo was super love and sweet and just so excited for her birthday and being 6.  A few little news and notes.  When she opens the Kanvinski (haha) and she loves it, but then her shock at cost.  It’s so kidlike, but also so aware at the same time.  We smiled and marveled at how wonderful she is.  Also, the new friend she got.  It’s been all about Hedgy last night and this morning.  Lastly, J and I were tucking her in for the 3rd and last time last night (sigh… KIDDO!!!!) and when we finally got the yawns and comforts and she was loved enough to sleep, we kissed her and told her night night for real.  J added, “Good night, my sweet six year old.”  Without missing a beat, Kiddo chimes in, “Ya know, Mumma and Dada… I don’t FEEL 6 yet.  It still feels like 5.”  Yeah, well, guess what, Kiddo… It feels like we only brought you home from the hospital the first time ...

Day 1 of (being) 6

Six years ago, J and I got to meet Kiddo.  We didn’t know if Kiddo was a boy or a girl.  We just knew we had a Kiddo on the way.  Every day since has been an adventure.  This is our second birthday abroad with her and we’ve tried our best to make it special for her.  Last year was a COVID semi-quarantine party, but we made it work and she celebrated in style.  This year is a bit more subdued, just us and Kiddo, but she woke to balloons and love and tonight, she will get tacos and cake, love and gifts, and everything else a newly minted 6 year old could want. I got a few pics of Kiddo getting ready for school and her excitement there.  She even wanted to make a Blog Video.  So, enjoy below.  That is Kiddo, in a nutshell.  She was great at being 5 and J and I think she will be equal to the task of being 6 as well.  Happy Birthday and much love, Kiddo.
