A new look for a new year

IMPORTANT:  Spoilers below.  Intro teaser posted and recommended to watch first.

On Friday night, J and I had a night out.  A date night, as it were.  There is a place here that does an all you can eat cheese and wine event once a month and J loves cheese and wine.  So, we headed out and had night of cheese, wine, and some good convo.  The views were great and it was nice to just have a night.

Saturday was a slow day.  We didn’t get hammered or anything, but a few glasses of wine, a bunch a cheese, going to bed later than usual, and it being our last weekend before school restarted, we needed a slow day to just chill and family.  Chinese New Year decorating started.  Kiddo, as you can see, went hog wild.  Some of this started the night before with Nanny Beer, as her and Kiddo started getting us ready for the CNY.  Thanks to J for holding up the towel to try to get a good shot of the window art.

Saturday was also a big day for Kiddo.  I went out for a bit to get a coffee and write a blog.  When I came home, Kiddo and J wanted to talk to me.  Kiddo had something important to ask.  She wanted bangs.  Some kids at school have bangs and she likes them and wanted to try her hair like that.  Sure!  It’s your hair.  You want bangs, have bangs.  They can grow out or you can shave your head if you don’t like it.  Yes, I said that.  Yes, she sighed and rolled her eyes at me- “Dada, I’m NOT shaving my head.  YOU shave your head.  I have hair!”  Well, she told me.

So, Sunday, J and her went down to the hair place that’s close and Kiddo got bangs.  I wasn’t sure who she was for a second?  Who is this girl with bangs?????  I think she’s adorable, but I’m partial.  A few things, before we move on to more.  First, J and I are super proud of her for wanting a hair style and asking for it.  Like the colored hair for back to school, she was brave and asked for something she wanted that she thought would be cool.  Good for her.  Second, she’s willing to take a chance and change something about her in a way that is 10000% noticeable.  It was a no backing down situation.  She had to decide.  And she did.  Bangs and it was 100% that was her choice and she was certain she wanted to try.  That’s hard to do.  Sometimes I’m scared and anxious to try things like that.  However, at the same time, I once went to work on a Wednesday with hair and arrived Thursday shaved headed and bearded up.  A look I still wear (for the most part) to this day.  Sometimes, you just gotta go for it.

After all that, we played a bit, as J needed to get some classwork done and planning for the week to come at work.  So, I got to help Kiddo introduce her new ‘do to Poley and then we learned about Ranza and about Ranzan scrolls and that Kiddo is Queen of Ranza.  Why wouldn’t she be.  LOL

So, enjoy Kiddo in all her glory.

Let’s go, Kiddo… We love your new hairstyle and we’re so proud of you for asking and trying something new.  More new will be coming in the months ahead, but it’ll be fun and we will be with you the whole time, enjoying and rocking out with you.  You only live once, so why not try bangs?!?!
