Back to blogging, I can shoulder this.
Sorry I’ve not been blogging much these last week and a half. Between the sicknesses going around the house and life, I also woke up on Saturday with a pinch in my neck and left shoulder. That’s taken a bit to calm and work itself out. Before today anything that I did would pinch my neck and shoulder. Even dinner prep was affected. I couldn’t do more than about 10 minutes of anything with my arms. Thankfully, today it’s feeling much better.
Before we moved to BKK, we took a 3 day trip to LA. Partly because we were flying out of LAX, but also it was easier to break out lease and move out then. It was a nice few days of eating at Grand Central Market and Oo-Kook Korean BBQ. We also got to Guerrilla Tacos for a meal. It was a treat.
The downside of it was some Kiddo Trauma on our second night there. I was in the Grand Central Market getting food and all that and then I was going to come and find Kiddo and J. Easy enough. However, when I came out, I heard that Kiddo had fallen out of her chair. Not just fallen, but slipped right out the back of the chair. This was, I’m told, caused by a pigeon landing on the table and startling Kiddo. Since then, she has had a deep loathing for pigeons; Going as far as calling them “filthy beasts.”
However, a few months ago, Kiddo shared a factoid with J and me one evening. It’s that male mosquitos don’t bite, only the females. The males will swarm and hover around people as a heat source, waiting for females. So, according to Kiddo, we shouldn’t sway mosquitoes unless they land on us, because those are just males and they won’t suck human blood. She was rather upset that J and I took the position that mosquitoes are nothing more than disease carriers and nuances. She yelled at us- “Be NICE to Earth and ALL creatures.”
That brings us back to pigeons.
On Saturday, with my shoulder and neck in bad shape, I was going to get a massage to try to work that out and J and Kiddo were heading to Central for lunch and to get a Bday gift for a Pool Party we went to on Sunday. As they were walking, they saw a smooshed pigeon. J shared the exchange.
Kiddo- Good! He deserves to be splat the bird. Pigeons are despicable creatures.
J- But mosquitoes are ok?
Kiddo- YUP! You have to protect nature.
So, there you have it. Mosquitoes are part of nature, but pigeons are the unholy minions of the furthest depths of hell and should be smote! You figure it out. LOL
We also did some painting and just had a fun weekend. The pool party Sunday was fun, but it kind of took it out of all of us. We got home about 16:30 and we all just needed to NOT. Kiddo just wanted to watch a show and be alone in her room and have some time to chill. J and I did the same and we all just chilled.
With my neck and shoulder bad, plus the weekend, we’ve been exploring the new Plurn Dee night market (pics and post to come soon on this) that is across the street for food options. We’ve found some things we all like and I’ve gotta give a shout out to the stall there and the krapow they make. Wonderful!
Krapow, for those that don’t know, it cooked (usually) in a wok. Add your protein. Once cooked, it’s got a sauce made of stock, oyster sauce, soy, lime juice, and some sugar and white pepper whisked together. Some people use fish sauce as well, but it’s usually pretty subtile so it doesn’t take over. Then, after the protein is cooked, holy basil or Thai basil is added and fried. Then some garlic and Thai chilis. Some places serve with just rice. Some with rice and a fried egg. Some with rice covered with creamy (scrambled) eggs. I prefer fried. The place at Plurn Dee, though… The spice! WOW!
I’ve had it places where I need to ask for spice. Then I ask for more. Then I add chili flakes. Then it’s pretty good. The place across the street though… I’ll get a pic tonight if I can, since J and I are going to market dinner and watch a movie after Kiddo goes to bed. I think it’s an even mix of protein and chili. I’m not kidding. Tonight, Krapow. Tomorrow, Kra-poo! Thank goodness for the bumgun culture!
Tomorrow is Friday and then it’s a February break. 10 days of no school and being home. I’ve heard rumors of the children’s museum, maybe a hair trim, and in a week, J and I will go on a date with some new friends. It’ll mostly be Kiddo and chilling and just having some fun. I’m sure I’ll blog with updates and pics.
Before I go, two things. First, three more mass shootings in the last 24 hours and 50+ so far this year. The year is 45 days old. Hey America… DO SOMETHING!!!! Fix it. Thoughts and prayers ain’t working. If every other country can figure it out, so can you. Fix it!!!!
Second, 4 states have a total ban on marijuana. Another 6 states have bans on THC, only allowing CBD oil with very few and very strict controls in place for certain medical conditions. So, 10 states are holding up the other 40 from full legalization. Hmmmm. Majority rules??? Nah, we’ll let the (un)silent minority dictate policy. How very very American of you, America! How about this… Legalize it. Hemp is a great cash crop, as is marijuana. Then, if people don’t want to smoke or consume it, they don’t need to do so. Much like abortion and gay marriage. Same sex marriage was legalized and not one single person I know has been forced to marry someone of the same gender.
I bring this up, because polling shows that 70%+ of Americans want gun controls in place. Also, 80%+ think marijuana should be rescheduled and, if not legal, medically legal and RXable. The “silent” minority running the show. Use common sense! And if people don’t like it… well, shucks! Laws exist for a reason and they can and do change to reflect the will of the people. How >20ish% counts as “will of the people” is beyond me. Tell MTG to shut up. Tell Ron Johnson to go back to Russia and live there and govern there, since he seems to like it so much. Tell Boebert to stuff it and bragging about being a 35 year old grandmother isn’t a flex. Find people who actually want to govern, not just shout about whatever culture war they are on that week.
Ok, I’ll get off my soapbox now.
Let’s go, Kiddo… One more day to break and then it’s just family time, fun time, and handing out. We can sleep in. We can hang out. We can not school at 0800. We can play Uno and craft and do all the fun stuff we want to do. Also, no homework for a week, but I think Mumma might have some things planned that help you learn anyways. You won’t know it though, because it’ll be playing. We love you.
