Life, 0-100
Over the last 2.5 years, we’ve all gotten pretty good with C over F and a 24hr clock. A few things about this. Firstly, I love metric. 10s and 100s everywhere- cm, km, g, kg, etc etc. However, in this, I prefer F to C. 30 is hot???? 10 is… Mediumish? Yes, I agree, 32 as freezing is odd, but 0 is cold, 100 is hot and varying degrees betwixt those are variants. Easy!
I bring this up because it is 33/34C degrees today. That’s 93F. See how much easier that is. 93. Hot. 93 out of 100… HOT still. 33ish is hot? But that’s only 7 degrees more than we keep the condo!!!
That’s the thing, we keep the condo at 26C most days. Sometimes, when I cook at night, we’ll bump it down to 25 and sometimes at night, if I’m up geeking and it’s not too hot and muggy out, I’ll bump it up to 27 or just turn off the AC and use a fan.
This, though, presents a problem. See, in Shanghai today it is 10C. That’s 50F. For us, it has been 3ish years since we’ve felt and experienced that. I’ve mentioned this in the blog in the past, but I feel the need to mention it again. Less than a year from today and we are in for Cold; at least for us. I’m expecting it and it will be a shock, but not the end of the world. Kiddo, however… Look out. Yesterday, in the house, she was wearing socks because her feet were cold. It was 26 in the house, with the sun up and the temps outside 33/34 again. And she was COLD!!!! Moving to Shanghai and her expecting 26 as cold, she is gonna lose it when it gets to be 10. It’s gonna be fun.
Speaking of fun, we’ve been having some. It’s February break and so the girls are home. Yesterday, they hit Lumphini park and then got bagels. They brought me a bagel home, but I stayed behind and did dinner prep from J and I, since we had a home date. We’ve also had some pool time. We’ve had some lunches and market meals as well. Mostly, I am following the girls’ lead, as they are the ones one break and so I’m letting them set the pace so they can recharge as needed.
For the date, J got some wines for Xmas and we finally got around to having one, after January and early Feb seemed to be cold and flu season in our house. J and I have been waiting pork medallions in a cream mushroom sauce with fresh pasta. So, that’s what I made. Turned out great and it was fun to home date. It was super fun to cook and create again. I miss home dates and cooking. Granted, I cook everyday. I don’t mean like that. More, cook something that took thought and timing, not just family meal.
For my last bit today, I want to mention that our summer plans have changed a bit. We’ve started looking and exploring options for the summer. 5-6weeks in the States will get pricey. A LOT Pricey. So, we are exploring spending a 2ish weeks in the States and then getting some more stamps in our passports. See more SE Asia, maybe SE Europe like Czechia, Macedonia, or Greece, and we can always go south and do Mexico, Central America or even Chili or Argentina. Regardless where we decide to visit, we’re gonna take those 3 weeks and see the world instead of overpaying in America and spending July inundated with Election Cycle crap every day.
To the constant readers reading this and worrying, don’t. We are keeping this close to us and letting those who need to know in the know. We still have plans to visit LA, as our flight is into LAX. We will still see San Francisco for about a week, so we can see Doc J, Schmittah, the Aw-Dawg, X Kuhn, and a few others, but the bulk of the summer we will explore more. Why not?!?! So, as we know, we will let you know and we can start planning with those we want to see.
Let’s go, Kiddo. We got break left and plenty of fun to have. Time here grows short, but the next adventures await. We can’t wait to explore it with you.
