What's so important about Fourth July?
There is no denying that Kiddo is a little Thai girl. From how she eats, how she talks, how she everything… She is a little Thai girl. We know this about her and love it, but she needed some new hair ties and the like and so J got her some Thai style hair ties. Just fits her in my opinion.
More than that, however, is her understanding of things. She can give you the ins and outs of Chinese New Year, Songkran, Loy Krathong, but we mentioned 4th of July to her the other night and her reaction was priceless. We missed the beginning, but she was floored. What’s so great about Four July? She had no idea or concept. To her, it’s just another day on the calendar.
America and being in the States this summer is going to be a learning experience and filled with questions and comments. From just being in America to the foods and traditions, she will have questions. She’s already asked me if there’s a market near Auntie Jessie’s and if they have good food like Plurn Dee. Also, she wanted to know if she could get pancakes or waffles at a market like here.
Having to get in a car and go places to get food is gonna trip her out. Some of the food is really going to blow her mind. Not having rice with every meal is going to really blow her mind. Everyone speaking English… How will she feel about that and react?
Today is a holiday here, so the girls are home. We had Nanny Beer come so J could have some time to do some Master’s work and I could have time to blog and life and all that. Besides, keeps everyone on a normalish schedule which always makes the rest of the week easier. With the 3 day weekend we’ve had some fun. A lot of pool time, since it’s once again coming into the rainy season, so leading up to that, it’s about 100+F and about 99.9% humidity. Walking outside is like getting slapped with a hot, wet, energy draining towel as your body does it’s very best to use every available drop of liquid left in your body to produce sweat in the hopes of maybe keeping you 1/2 degree cooler.
We did get to a cafe near us the other day. Kiddo wanted to write in her book and J and I wanted coffee. The place is right on water and then add in shade, some fans, and a breeze to top that off and it was a comfortable little outing. Besides, can anything beat a piece of Red Velvet cake before some writing?
The same night we got the 4th of July freak out, J also got a pic of me loving Kiddo. She’s WAY too big to be our baby anymore, she’s a girl now. Look at her cradling in my arms! She’s a whole person!!! She’s too darned cute though. I just love her cuddling into us. Part of me wishes she was 3 again and just tiny and baby and love. This version of her is too great to pass up, in my opinion. The questions, comments, some of the little Kiddoisms…. It’s just beyond. On top of that, she’s just so her and so grown up. Here she is, full kid mode in her little Mogli pose picking out her iPad stories and sounds before bed.
Speaking of Mogli poses.... That's her doing art. Legs, and knees, and elbows and Kiddo every which way. We also had to run to Central to get some stuff and J loves to get pics of Kiddo and I walking and chatting and holding hands.
We also had some lego fun one morning and we just wanted to show off Kiddo being in her world and doing her thing.
Plus, I got to have more of Kiddo reading her book to me. It just speaks for itself.
Let’s go, Kiddo… There is a lot to still do, but we are on it and working towards it. Songkran is a few days away and then a week off. In that time off, you will turn 7 and be even more Kiddo than you are right now, believe it or not.
