Code Switching
It was a weekend of getting back to things. I could resume my walks, so I’m back on that and it was nice to have J and Kiddo along for the walk. We have a loop we do and I’ve been exploring, so I found a bigger loop on a similar, but slightly different route. It was nice to get in a 2 mile walk. We got produce and fruit and lunch on the way as well, so it was a good walk and knocked out some errands as well.
The real fun from the weekend was J and Kiddo going out to the sandpit on Sunday afternoon. We started the day doing a Costco run, which was nice, since J could help with the heavy lifting, since I’m still on a lift and weight restriction, not more than 4kg. The docs want to make sure the artery heals completely before putting too much stress on the area. I get it, as I don’t want an arterial bleed… especially on blood thinners. One bummer on that, but I’ll get there.
Anyways, the ladies went to the sandpit and I was at home doing chilling and dinner prep and they were off on an adventure. A few hours later they get home and I was in the middle of prep and they told me that they had called, but I had my ringer off. They went out on bikes, but took a car home.
There were some bees around the sandpit, so instead they took off and went to a Starbucks that is in the area. Someone, not naming names, had a chocolate muffin, and they chilled. Going to come home and they couldn’t get the bike lock on Kiddo’s bike to open. The bikes were locked and it’s China, so it’s safe and the bike could live a night there. We’d go Monday (yesterday) to figure it out, as something similar had happened to my bike lock last year in Fall. After the winter and spring and rain and humidity, maybe it just sticks. Same thing happened to mine, I needed to jiggle and work it and ended up switching to a key lock, less chance of that.
Yesterday, we cruised over to have dinner at a spot we know and then solve the bike lock problem. I got at it and no luck. Well, I explored a bit and it turns out the J doesn’t close the locks, she just tosses them in her backpack. On top of a sweatshirt for Lil Miss, a water bottle, and other miscellany that lives there. She commented that Kiddo’s bike lock wouldn’t go at first, but that’s because the switch to set the lock was turned and so she turned it back and the lock slid right in place, she gave it a twist and that was that.
We theorize that not only did the switch to change the code get twisted, but also the code itself twisted. J didn’t realize it and didn’t look to see what the numbers were, so I tried a few combos that we near the old code, but with 5 digits…. That’s a long game to play.
Since we know it isn’t a stuck lock, but a unknown code issue, I ordered a new lock for Kiddo and a pair of bolt cutters and we’ll just snip the lock and use the new one. Lesson learned and J will be vigilant to lock the locks before throwing them in her bag so accidents like this don’t happen again.
Before I go, the bad news with blood thinners for me is that I’m meeting BSchmittah in BKK in Sept for a week and then taking him to Vietnam so he can experience that as well. We were going to get Tattooed while in BKK, as BSchmittah get’s tattoos when he goes new and cool places and…. Well, I’ve started the same. I’ve got my Vietnam tat and B is getting on in Saigon as well. Going back to Mix and he’s getting ink there. It’s a rad shop and they do good work, so I was happy to recommend the spot to B, but in BKK, I was going to get something for Thailand and B was as well. As you can imagine, blood thinners and tattooing doesn’t mix well, so that plan is out right now. Not for B, do you and jealous me, but looks like it’ll be a no for me. I have my follow ups with the cardiologist end of this month, in August, and then again in Sept before the trip, so I will check with her and stay on top of my new diet, cholesterol plan, and weight loss routine and see if I can’t get back to good, so we can reduce of briefly stop the meds so I can get the ink done, but I’d guess that’s a less than 1% chance of happening, so it’s looks like that’s out for the next year or so. I guess the silver lining is that I’m going to need to go back to BKK again to get the work done. Maybe I can convince B to fly back out and join me in a year. Unless he hates the heat and weather, I think it’ll be an easy sell.
Let’s go, Kiddo…. Tomorrow I’m off all restrictions and can get back to the new normal. I can start biking and working out again without restrictions, I can lift things again, and I can get back to normal; as long as we’re monitoring my heart rate and keeping it below 135 and eating right. Thanks for wanting to walk with me, encourage me to bike and be healthier, and eating fish and the change in diet with me. I’m glad you’re on board with this and are being a teammate for me. Same goes for you J. It’s going to be a different year, but a fun one, filled with changes, but they will be for the better; not just for me, but for all of us.
