Life is short.  And we have one go at it.  A lifetime is a long time, but when you think about it, it’s really not that much time.  I almost had my ticket punched in my 20s and at 41, so maybe I’m more sensitive to that than most people, but I do think about stuff like that.  And not in a political or “we need to do more with life” kind of way.  In… IDK.  In a way.  Read to the end, you’ll see. I’ve been doing some napkin math recently.  I thought some of you might enjoy that; some of you for the math, some for the insights into my thoughts, and some just for the fun of it. The average person lives approximately 80 years.  However, the start of life is focused on growing, developing, and becoming.  Let’s call that the first 5 years.  That leaves us with a 75 year period. It’s been a while since I’ve written about myself and what’s going on with me and not focusing on Kiddo, but today I’m here to catch y’all up on a few things. In the last few months, I’ve been struggling with my health.   I broke a toe in Vietnam and then after that I strained a shoulder muscle.   This lead to a breakout of shingles and let me tell you; that is NOT fun.   Come early September I can get the vax for that and believe you me, I can’t wait for that day, because anything to lower the chances of that happening again.   Ugggg.   The muscle weakness and nerve pain were much. That, however, lead to the doctors wondering why I had such high blood pressure.   It was a trend.   In the last 6 months, my low had been 140/90, but I had seen the doc for illnesses and the like.   I, and the doctor I saw for my flu vax, wrote it off to anxiety for seeing a Chinese doctor.   In BKK, I needed to go in about every 75 days to get my ADHD meds and t...

Mastering our Thankfulness

It’s Thanksgiving week and we have a lot to be thankful for this year.  First and foremost is the grill and the fact that I can do a chicken for us.  I did a prep run the other week and all was great.  Timing was spot on.  Sides were easily manageable.  Heat control was on point.  I over cooked by about 12 minutes, but my meat thermometer was dead (not everything needs batteries and wifi, but that’s another rant) and I was going a bit on feel.  Considering the last time I roasted a chicken, let alone on a grill, was over 4 years ago, I was happy.  The only other complaint was the gravy.  I got a bit heavy handed with the flour and it was a little over thick.  Both things are easily fixable.  Again, after 4 years away from doing to cook to be a little over done and the gravy a little over thick isn’t the worst.  It’s fixable and the chicken I’ll be getting for our Thanksgiving meal will be about 300-400g heavier, so that should ...
