Whine time?
Visitors have come and gone, we’ve had a run in with some illnesses, and Chinese New Year hopped in and out. Year of the Rabbit… HAHA.
That said, Doc J has put up her thought on the BKK visit. It was nice to read an outsiders view of things. If you want to give it a read, go ahead and cruise over and check it out. I’ll wait…..
Good pics, right! And a wonderful counterbalance to my writings. It was short and I wish we could have a month with them, but we had the fun we could in the time we had. Beyond that, it was great to reconnect with Doc J and Mr E. I’m also very glad that they got to spend some time with us in our neighborhood and see the little slice of Bangkok we call home.
As mentioned in Doc J’s blog was that they gifted us a couple of bottles of wine, as they got it duty free, but had access to the upper floors and bar at their hotel, so we benefitted.
We were gifted a Rosé wine and a red. We are saving the red for Valentines Day since that falls on February Break so J and Kiddo have the week off and J and I can do a home date. We found burgers that are supposed to be really good, so I’ll be making burgers for us. I’ll be making some spicy pickles out of some cuncumbers later today and also pickling some red onions to give the perfect pop, crunch, and zing to the burgers. Excited!
Last night, however, we broke open the rosé and had a glass each with dinner. Normally, I’m not a big fan of rosé, but I trust Doc J’s taste and preferences in wine without question or hesitation, so since I grilled a tuna belly we figured it would be a great wine to go with the meal. Boy howdy was it! We had rice with the fish, that was simple and went fine with the wine. The bok choy I made though… That was perfect with the fish and wine as well. I sautéed it in a little sesame oil that I added some chili oil to as well. Perfect spice. Not huge, just a little pop and linger on the back end. With the flavor of the tuna belly and the wine; That was the winning combo. (Sorry no pics of dinner, but we were busy eating. LOL)
J and I have also taken to Soju. We’ve been playing with flavors and brands and enjoying it, even when we don’t. We got a creamy vanilla flavor about a month ago… That was rough. This one, coffee or something. It’s like a sweet, alcoholy, somewhat distantly chocolatey iced latte. It’s one of my favorites currently. Also, the first time I had soju, I was in LA with my buddy JY. About a week before we moved. We went to a Cubs V Dodgers game at Chavez Ravine (Dodgers Stadium), but before that, JY and his father Sammy (who came with us since JR couldn’t make the trip) took me to KBBQ at a place called OoKook Korean BBQ that he claims is the best KBBQ in LA. Don’t argue with the native Korean and just enjoy the food and drinks. On top of that, I’ve heard from a few other foodies and Koreans that OoKook is the best KBBQ outside of Seoul. Again, don’t argue with the natives, just sit and eat and enjoy!
Other than that, life rolls on. I’m still working M-F on my side project (news or more on this at the end of the month…. maybe) and the girls have school. I work mornings and I can task with that. Start laundry or start dinner if I’m doing something that takes prep or a long time (soup for one), I shop or keep the house stocked with food, both to cook and the breads, cereals, fruits, snacks, etc. I handle the day to day. It’s fun. The only thing I miss is a Western style kitchen. That would be even more fun. But, hey, if my side work pans out, that could be something that we find in our next contract and adventure, which is looking to maybe be elsewhere; Who knows, though. We have a year and a half left here and more than a half year until J would need to start applying and looking elsewhere and a lot can happen in that time. Heck, we’re a year and a half into this contract and adventure and it feels like we’ve had a TON happen. So, life will move on and we will shuck and jive with it.
Let’s go, Kiddo… It’s February, break is coming, you will see the allergist, and Mumma and I love you so darn much. Thanks for taking this adventure with us and being the best source of smiles and laughs we could ever imagine.
