Climbing up some cooking hoops

I wanted to take a minute at the start of this to give J a little praise and credit.  She has been busy so far this school year, but she’s been managing it wonderfully.  She’s helping around the house, she’s communicating with me on her work and school work and what is needed, she is applying for jobs, she handled our Visas for China (even though that came back to my To-Do List, it was 95% her), and not only is she caring for her body and climbing, she is excelling at that and really getting a feel for it. I mention this because  I like J and think she needs props and a Glow Up every once in a while. She’s busy but not losing it I’m a former climber and it’s nice to see her not only wanting to climb, but enjoying the physical and mental challenge that it offers. On Sunday, she went climbing with Beksters and Ash and since Ash was in town and planning on just meeting them there (B and J), so we invited Beksters for dinner and I made butter seared salmon and rice w...

Day 4 of being 6

Not much has been going on recently.  We are just into the doldrums of life and the school year.  That doesn’t mean it’s boring or uninteresting, just busy and routines and life and school and homework and Grade 1 and all of it.   Not that we aren’t having fun.  We are.  It’s just a different fun.  We aren’t traveling or doing or anything like that.  We are just being.  Usually, by Saturday, we are just being lazy and so we spend a lot of time reconnecting, hanging out, making pancakes, and things like that.  It’s actually been pretty fun, but more in a family at home way. J and I have had our moments as well.  She’s been busy with life, school, job applications, and her Masters.  So, life is a little different.  J will work nights, so Kiddo and I will have extra Gaming time and then J will break away for a quick goodnight to Lil Miss and then get back to work.  However, when Kiddo gets up to use the bathroom, or with ...

Weekend Fun Induction

We have a new addition to the house.  An induction cooker and pot.  Hot Pot is something J and I love and it’s something we think Kiddo will come around on if we don’t make it spicy, since she loves Pho and Ramen.  It’s something we’ve been talking about for a few months, but with summer and our Vietnam travels, we’ve been holding off. That was a mistake.   I’ve used it twice now.**  Once for a stir fry and once to boil potatoes.  It is significantly more powerful and quicker that the cooktop here.  Note to self; if next move is in SEA, get a hot pot set up ASAP!  Alternatively, find how the locals cook and do it like that. Last night, however, J and I did a home date and we broke it in Hot Pot style.  We, obviously, are going to dial this in and tweak it so it fits our style a bit better, but for a first try I gotta say that it was phenomenal.   I bring this up for two reasons. First, Kiddo! We were sitting around yesterday mo...
