Capable of being six.

Nine days out of ten, I am on Kiddo duty before I’ve had a cup of coffee.  Heck, most mornings, it’s before I have a sip of coffee.  This morning was no different, only I needed to wake up and come immediately online and discuss Elfie and hiding spots for an unfound overly intrepid elf.  Used all the vowels there!   I was awakened with a smack and before I had my eyes opened, I was bombarded with questions, thoughts, and everything else that is on a six year old’s mind on a Wednesday at the end of November.  As I shamble out of the bedroom, I hear exactly what I expected to hear - “I’m hungry… and where could that Elf be????”   I pour cereal.  I turn off her room and the night light, speaker, and white noise sounds she sleeps with.  Setting up the iPad, I look down as she is destroying cereal as she partially eats, partially looks around for Elfie, and partially talks to me about her dreams, how she got to dreamland, what her Fairy Grab was li...

Life for you, Life for your crops.

Yesterday was Loy Krathong and it was a day for celebrating.  BASIS had an after school event that we attended.  It was games, fun, song, celebrating, and cotton candy.  Beer came with us as well.  A good time was had by all.   I, also, had a conversation with Beer about the day.  It is a celebration of the River Goddess for bringing water and life, as the rivers swell and bring crops and health.  I was also told it was a day for young couples as it is a celebration of new life, etc etc.  I’m sure you can make the inferences that I made as well.  However, part of Loy Krathong having clothing and a style of dress is part of it as well.  As Beer explained; It’s like some birds that show pretty feathers for partners.  Actually, it’s all pretty cool.  One of those expat things, I guess. Anyway, short post, but some good pics.  Cheers and Happy Holiday Season to all. PS.  The blog title is a quote/reference to a work o...

Long Weekend

Thursday was Thanksgiving, but for us, it was just Thursday.  Basis did a Thanksgiving lunch and some stuff like that, but for the most part, it’s just a day here.  That’s fine with us, as we don’t really have a kitchen to do a Thanksgiving meal.  In the past I have tried, but we’ve come to see ourselves as Expats, not Americans, so we don’t have a deep desire to celebrate the day, much like none of you (most of you, we may have Thai readers) will not celebrate Loy Krathong on Monday. This year, however, I had company for my Thursday at home.  I had a sick Kiddo.   She came in at 04:30 and again at 04:45 to get J and complain that her nose was stuffed and she had a cough.  Poor baby was miserable during the day.  We called her in and Kiddo and I just had a lazy day.  We played a little.  Watched some Zootopia.  Had lunch.  Watched more Zootopia.  I got a coffee because I needed the afternoon boost and Kiddo wanted to come w...

The Ice Man Cometh

I’m on Kiddo during the nights and mornings, since I can sleep or nap or be lazy as needed and J, being in charge of 17 Kinder Kids, doesn’t have that luxury.  On Saturday and Sundays, though, I get to sleep in.  Kiddo usually comes in and gets J at about 07:30-07:45, but I get to snooze until 08:15 or so.  It’s a nice little sleep in for me and, since I’m a night owl, I get to stay up later on the nights before and game.  This weekend was no different, but waking and coming out of the bedroom for coffee and morning time was comical.  On weekends, I get up and start my day by doing good morning love and kisses to the ladies.  Then I pour a coffee and J and I will chat, game plan, and do all the morning adult stuff while Kiddo munches some cereal or fruit and gets some iPad time.  This weekend, however, I wake and walk out of the bedroom and walk up to J and kiss her head.  Looking down, I see she is dressed in PJ Pants, a long sleeve shirt, and ...
