Just one day

Sunday morning at 0300, we got a visitor.  The night before, she was up complaining that she felt like she needed to cough, but nothing would cough.  The middle of the night wake up was because her throat hurt.  I grabbed the flashlight and gave Kiddo the once over and nothing wrong.  We got her settled and off to sleep.

Sunday was a lazy day.  We stayed near home and didn’t do much.  A few times during the day, Kiddo had a sneezing fit of 4-5 sneezes in a row.  With her allergies and the seasons changing here, the air is getting worse, so we chalked it up to allergies and gave her a dose of Claritin before bed.

From 22:30 to almost midnight, I was on Kiddo.  She kept getting up.  She was sweaty and just off.  I gave Tylenol and used some Vicks rub and that all got her to sleep.  She woke yesterday and was just off.  Tired.  Sneezy.  Run Down.  I made the call to keep her home.

Yes, it was unplanned and yes, it did mess up my day and plans a bit, but she didn’t feel well and was up part of the night.  She helped with laundry a bit.  We played at home.  We took an hour long rest.  We watched some shows.  It was a lazy and feel better day.  She needed it.

We’re not “perfect attendance” parents.  There’s no pride in going to school or work whilst sick, potentially slowing your own wellness, but also jeopardizing others wellness.  Besides that, J and I had planned to have Kiddo and I fly to KL with her, if possible.  The trip was so rushed that tix were pricy and J flew solo, but we planned on taking Kiddo, even if just for an overnight, to see the city and have that experience.  We even planned on her call out.  Kiddo will be out on Day X and Y, she is off experiencing the world.

End of the day, she is fine in school.  More than fine.  She is keeping up and excelling.  Besides, she learned laundry yesterday, at least peripherally.  She also helped strip her bed and remake it once laundry was done.  Benefit… Clean sheets for the sick girl, learning skill, helping around house, rest, ability to not push through when ill, extra rest and Dada time, extra neti to help rinse sinuses, and she woke up today feeling better and ready for the school day.

It was a one day thing and she’s back to full Kiddo today.

Besides that, news is coming from us.  We’ve made our choice and just need to sign and submit the contract.  It’s an exciting time.  News to come.  For now, I will say that it is not Bangkok, but we are staying in the Asia/Pacific region for at least the next 3ish years, but probably longer.

I’ve already started to get reminiscent of BKK, while also looking forward to a new city and place.  But… Sigh.  There is so much to do in the next 8 months.  Once more, we will reduce our lives to 8 suitcases.  But, we are also planning on a few weeks in the States and there are things we will want to pick up and update (technologies, meds, things like that) and that will take some ballast as well, so we really need to plan for 7.5 suitcases, leaving some space to add as needed, but really, no more than a shoe box or two in size.  On the plus side, at least we don’t need to worry about a two week quarantine this time.

For now…

Let’s Go, Kiddo… You are back to 100% and ready to go.  We’re glad you got the day to get back to well.  We can’t wait for the fun of the Xmas season (already started here in Thailand) and the new year.  Next year, it will be totally different, in a different city, country, and culture, so we can all see and experience it together.
