Illnesses and temperatures

It was a slow weekend that saw Kiddo get pounded by allergies/chest cold and J being on the backend of food poisoning.  That made for a stay in weekend and lots of just resting and hanging out.  Kiddo played and then would run out of energy and just chill and J was still rebounding from Thursday, so we all just took it easy. Kiddo, for her part, took a 2.5 hour nap.  She was just a miserable ball of sneezing and not feeling great.  The nap started on the floor.  J was chilling and just sitting and relaxing after her lunch, but Kiddo wasn’t really hungry so we didn’t push it.  We told her she could go to lay down if she was tired and wanted to sleep.  She told us that she wanted to be near Mumma and Dada and just rest.  Well, as you can see, that turned into a little bundle of sleep. I can’t be mad about it, because I get it.  When I was a kid, I was often yelled at when I was sick for laying under the dinning room table and napping when I...

I ate everything in the whole house.

Life with a 5 year old is fun.  Funny.  And sometimes brutally honest. Today, I awoke to J and Kiddo in the living room doing the morning.  Cereal and iPad time for Kiddo.  Coffee for J.  However, I was informed upon waking that we were out of cereal.  When I asked how and why that happened, I was informed that someone woke up “starving” this morning and ate the remaining cereal in the house.  “I ate everything in the whole house!”  A few minutes later, upon finishing the crumbs of cereal and a few pieces of buttered toast, she asked if she should wash her hands, “Because they aren’t comfortable since they are all crumby.”   Needless to say, J and I had a hearty laugh at that. Other news is that J didn’t get to see the concert the other night.  She wasn’t feeling well, but that got worse as they were heading into town.  J ended up coming back home and she looked awful.  She ended up heading to bed and was up and down all ...

Live show and the Kiddo

I’ve seen some shows in my day.  More bands than I can count or even remember in some cases.  I’ve seen bad shows with local bands.  I’ve seen good shows from good bands before they were famous, like Death Cab for Cutie at a bowling alley in Chicago with my buddy Ryan and about 25 other people.  I’ve seen festivals and multiple band shows, like Lalapolooza or Area One.  I've been to raves, both concert settings and warehouse types.  I’ve seen punk, rap, pop, and everything in between.   I mention this because J has only ever seen one show.  It was Depeche Mode on their Delta Tour on 22 September 2013.   We were just married.  Now, almost a decade later, she gets to see another show. I’m super excited for her.  Her friend from BASIS, Ash, invited her to a show that is a bunch of cover bands.  It’s not like she gets to see a rock legend or anything like that, but a show is a show and it might surprise you.  So, I’...

Whirlwind Week and Weekend

Image
So much from the last week.   First, we’ve been visited.  Doc J and Mr E came in and it was great to see them.  I could give a moment for moment rundown of our time, but it wasn’t that exciting… At least, not for everyone else.  For us (and I hope I speak for Doc J and Mr E as well) it was an absolute blast. Upon their arrival we met up at the airport.  The traffic and getting a car/cab in BKK can be daunting, so I was there to help ease that and smooth the transition.   The airport was a bit of a flashback.  None of us have been back since the day we landed and the airport was a ghost town then, as it was mid-pandemic.  This time, however, it was filled with life and people and travelers from all nations.  I found a spot where I could sit and read until Doc J and Mr E cleared customs and all that.  From there, after the hugs and hellos, we got a car easily.  I already posted the airport chaos in my last post.  That was f...

Famous in Asia and a good view

It’s been a year and a half and we are still experiencing some firsts here in Bangkok.  The other night, I was making a new soup.  A creamy tomato tortellini pasta soup.  It was ok, but I have ideas to make it better.  However, I found a can of tomato paste for the soup.  Only I needed a can opener.  A year and a half in BKK and we haven’t needed a can opener yet.  Thankfully, I was able to borrow one, so I didn’t need to scramble to the Mall to get a can opener.   The other first is the best one.  It was my first trip back to the airport.  I’d like to report that I was off to somewhere exotic and cool, but even better than that, Doc J and Mr E were landing and paying us a visit.  So, I headed to the airport to meet up and assist with the transition to Bangkok and life.   It was wild going to the airport.  The only other time we’ve (or just me) have been back since landing.  When we landed, the airport was a ghos...

You got that Write!

Every family has there little quirks and sayings, expressions, and shorthands.  We have ours as well.  Kiddo’s blankies are “the fluffs”, we have a pigeon cooing sound (long story) for I love you, or even “Get a friend” when it’s time to go as a last thing - Shoes, Mask, grab a friend.  Kiddo knows that we are walking out currently and she needs to get her stuff together. In this case, the other night, we were doing a Pick It Dinner.  That means J and I are ordering food (usually spicy or things Kiddo doesn’t eat) and Kiddo can pick her dinner.  Chicken and Rice or Noodles, eggs and tortillas, or whatever she wants.  We’re pretty accommodating with Kiddo on these as she never asks for anything overly complex.  I can make a chicken tender and rice in 20 minutes.  Or Noodles and chix.  Eggs and tortillas take 8 minutes.  It ain’t hard.  Besides, since we're not eating, we get to just sit with her and chat with her while she eats. ...
