A wedding, an outbreak, and a swim

Time to catch up with somethings.  I just realized that I completely forgot about our weekend and the big news from that.

We had some nuptials.

That’s right, Mixed Up Milkshake (M.U.M.) and Carmel got married.  I know what you’re thinking… A fuzzy rainbow unicorn marrying a dog that was born to two Lombaxes, no way that works.  They are just too different.

As you can see, the event went off without a hitch and don’t they just look so happy?

Kiddo was great as the event planner and caterer of the event.  They had berry and veggie stir fry for a main course and Red Velvet, Chocolate, caramel, and sprinkle cake.  They also made invites to the friends that were invited.  Her and J even typed them up on the computer.  Not only were they hand addressed, they were hand colored.

There was a little bad news from the weekend, however.  It seems that there was an outbreak of Rabies in Ranza and Poley, Snow, Ratchet, Rivet, and BattyCup were all affected.  Thankfully, Doc Fix-It-Up was ready for this outbreak and Ranza Rabies is a little different than regular rabies, as it only takes one shot to cure, but then you need to stay in the hospital for a week getting IVs of blood and making sure you’re cured by making sure you can drink water everyday.

The fact that persons infected with rabies who get to late stage infections become hydrophobic and that Kiddo knows this and incorporates it is beyond awesome to me.

There was some pool time this weekend, when things weren’t busy with the wedding or rabies.  It was good to get out and get some pool time, but it’s also nice to toss in the little Energizer Bunny and let her swim off about 1/25th of her energy.  Seriously, we can take her for an hour or two and she is the same energy level from first to last…. And that level is to the clouds high.

End of the day, it was all smiles and ice cream treats.  I’d call that a good weekend.

Last night, we had Becksters for dinner.  She is having a bit of a bad week (if she’s reading, hugs and smiles) and just needed a day to not.  Well then, take a day off and come have chicken tacos with us.  I even made guac.  It was nice to have her and it was nice to help her out, even if it was just a meal and hanging out for a bit.  Sometimes it’s those little things.  I know we didn’t solve all her problems and make the week magically better, but I do hope that it was enough to give her a little smile and a bit of a silver lining during a crap week.

Because Becks was there, J was hanging out and being a friend.  So, I was on Kiddo for shower and life.  Easy enough.  When we got to bedtime, however, Becks decided that sleep sounded great and made her goodbyes.  Kiddo, however, was a bit meltdowny, as she didn’t get her Mumma or Dada time.  Then, about 20 minutes after we put her to bed, she was back up because she, “couldn’t even get comfortable.”  Being 7 is HARD work sometimes.

She kind of just slid into J’s lap for a sit and cuddle while we were talking.  First, she showed off that she knew how to braid her own hair.

OK, that’s pretty cool.  J is going to work on that with her so she can put her hair in braids as wanted/needed.  That might make my next year easier, if Kiddo can braid or do up her own hair and take that out of my hands.  I haven’t had hair since I was about 20.  That’s more than half my life now.  So, having a daughter with hair… I have no idea.  I don’t even have hair of my own.  I have no basis for even beginning to know what the heck I’m doing with a head of hair.  I brush it and pony tail it as best I can, but I’m not getting fancy with it.  On top of that, half the time I’m doing Kiddo’s hair, she’s ouching and oofffing and telling me that I’m pulling it.  The other half of the time, she’s bored and wanting to tell me something so her hands and little head is bopping around like Elvis on the Ed Sullivan Show.  (Come on, that’s a great pull!)

I also was made aware that we are not the only source of music in Kiddo’s life any longer.  She’s really been digging this recently (alt link on YouTube for the non-Spotify users) and so it was shared with me so I could enjoy having it stuck in my head as well.  Someone get a copy of this song to my cousin Chad, I think The Westish Harpooners would find it apropos.  Jokes aside, I’m ok with it and I like that she’s going into her own direction and finding what she likes.  I doubt that she’s going all in on this music, but hey… Could be Taylor Swift or the Beyonce’s “country” album.  Again, I jest (some) about that, but Kiddo can listen to what she wants and she can like the music she likes.  The rule is, he (or she) who cooks picks the tunes.  The extends to other house chores as well.  She (or he) who cleans, folds, irons, packs, plays legos with Kiddo, etc picks the tunes.  So, as soon as Kiddo starts cooking, cleaning, or doing whole house chores, she can pick the house music.  As for right now, it’s still a pretty even split of J or myself controlling the tunes.  Kiddo will get her day.  She already has playlists and will ask for them.  J and I will play them, as it’s mostly our music curated to fit Kiddo’s tastes.  As Kiddo branches out, however… It’s gonna get interesting.

Let’s go, Kiddo… we can play, swim, listen to tunes, play games, plan a wedding, or just doctor the friends.  Whatever it is, we just want to fall into KiddoLand and explore the fun and imagination that you have.  Keep it up and we can’t wait for our Family Friday Fun Night.
