Girls day gets shortened =O
Yesterday, J and Kiddo headed into town together. J needed to pick up her med refill and they wanted a girls day, so I was left alone. No worries, as I had some emails and the like to catch up on, but I was also making a grilled pork loin with crispy air fryer potatoes, with roasted carrots and onions and I was also doing asparagus for J and myself and cuncumbers for the Kiddo. For me, it was a good day. I caught up on stuff, got to watch a little college football, only had to make myself lunch, read a bit (Richard Russo’s Empire Falls for the curious), and did the dinner prep while jamming to tunes. I mean, all in all, that’s a pretty cool day.
J and Kiddo headed out on the Metro and I got some updates. First, they got bagels. I’ll admit, I’m a little jealous of that, but when I picked up my own meds two weeks ago, I got bagels on a solo mission, so I can’t complain overmuch. Not only was Kiddo chatty as al get out (from what I was told) but she was also IN the bagel.
There was also a gelato treat. This I really am jealous about. Kiddo went with Japanese Apricot and J got Fig. The other flavors also sounded unique and wonderful and I don’t know what I would have gone with, had I been with them. Pomegranate Lemon Grass, 72% Vietnamese Dark Chocolate, Mixed Berry with Green Tea Leaf, and a few others that I can’t recall right now. Again, I can’t really tell if Kiddo was loving it.
They found a little park and that’s where Kiddo got to shine. She was loving every moment of it. The nature. The art.
Then she decided to become living art. As well as a monkey.
Finding turtles was beyond a highlight. I’m told Kiddo went ultra sonic on it and just squeaked and bounced for a few minutes before settling down and talking to the turtles a bit. She filled them in on Amazon and Nile, just in case they were related, and of course, needed to take a few snaps of her own.
Part of girls day was getting a trim. J needed to clean her hair up and she and Kiddo were going to do it together. I took Kiddo in August, but she wanted to have a girl day and get a trim and hair wash, so that was part of it.
Until she came home.
Yup, after two years of telling us she never wanted to cut her hair more than a trim, so chopped it. I think she looks DARLING! Also, after shower yesterday, she brushed it in a minute and was done, instead of the 5 minutes of brushing and tangles and then braiding it or pony tailing it out of her way. No more worrying or reminding her at dinner to keep her hair out of her food. I’m a fan.
So, how it started….
How it ended…..
And how it was today walking to school with it being a blustery fall day.
Needless to say, it was a great yesterday for all. Kiddo was given agency over her hair and got her girl day and I got to cook, chill, and just kind of do a me day on a weekend, which is rare. J also talked about how it was a great day, how she really just got to sink in and connect with Kiddo and have a day with her. Plus, my pork loin in one of J’s favorite meals. From the marinade, to the cook method, to the crispy taters, roasted carrots, and asparagus…. It’s one of her love meals, so I love making it for her; Almost as much as she loves eating it. LOL
Let’s go, Kiddo… time for a school day and showing off your new hair to everyone. You kept it secret and didn’t even tell H you were doing it, so I can’t wait to hear all about it. It’s fun watching you grow, change, and groove into your own style. We hope to see you change and explore your hair and style more and more. We wonder if your big teenage freakout will be coloring it, shaving it, or doing something completely funky with your hair…. And style. Where will we be and how will that influence those style choices, how will where’ve we been add influence? It’ll be fun to see and we can’t wait, even though we also wish you were still 3 and without agency some of the time. Besides, way back then, you still liked to eat pasparagups with me and Mumma at dinner. HAHA
