Like the movies
The girls had school on this last Sunday, but the good news to that is they now have a break. The first week of October is Labor Day/Week here and so they are off from 1 October until 8 October and we get some time together. It’s a needed break, as both have been working hard. J, on her masters and as Language Art coordinator for grades 4/5 and for Kiddo it’s because Grade 3 is hard. I don’t say that mockingly. A lot of new stuff is coming at her and her class got mixed and separated, so her bestie H is in a different classroom, so there is the social pressure of new kids and new friends as well. It’s time to have a little down time and sleep in and just chill.
We’ve been having some lazy fun. On Wednesday, J and Kiddo redid her bedroom, completely redoing where and how it was set up. It needed the deep clean as well, so that was an added bonus. We moved everything, though. The bed is in a new spot. The turtles have a new view. It’s a whole new room. That was fun for all though and Kiddo pitched in a ton. She was all in on helping, vacuuming, cleaning, and redecorating the space. I was on support, bringing things and running laundry as items came and went in and out.
Thursday we had a lazy morning of watching MLB Playoffs and coffee and breakfast. Then, around 9:30, we got ourselves ready and headed out to the library. We needed to feed the bookworm. We also got lunch and spent some time out. As you can see, Kiddo was hating the books and all that we did. HAHA
Friday was an odd day. The girls needed to get shampoo and conditioner for their hair, since they share product. Being the hairless one in the house helps. I ran errands and did my routine, as best I could, but they broke off and did their own thing, getting the shopping done and getting lunch while out. I fended for myself, which is no big deal.
Saturday we headed out and got ramen at a place we all like. It was a nice little outing, slow and lazy and taking some time to do some window shopping before we stopped in Uniqlo and checked out the winter wear. J was looking for a dress to wear, something warmer and also something she could present in, as she has a grade level presentation coming up and it could springboard her, so she was looking for something winterish, but also professional. It was a great outing and Kiddo ended up getting some new fluffs, so that was always a perk.
Not much else was going on between then and today, except for the fact that we had scheduled check ups at the doctor and flu shots. We planned it for Tuesday, so we cold take Wednesday as a down day. Flu shots always take it out of us for about 24 hours, so we wanted the buffer day. All is looking good for all of us, Kiddo is square center on height and at about 45% for weight, so a little under, but nothing to worry about. She just runs around too much. HAHA. As we told the doc, she eats more than J and I, but also runs, skips, jumps, or wiggles everywhere and probably burns about 6 trillion calories a second. So, no worries there and she should drink an extra glass or two of milk a day to help. We noted that and will start including that in her diet.
The one cool thing about the doctor was when J and I were getting BP, Heart Rate, Weight, Height, and vitals done, I was explaining something to Kiddo and the nurse (who had wonderful English) interrupted and told us, “You sound like Hollywood movies in accent.” She then asked where we were from and we told her California. Her eyes lit up like we were actual movie stars. It was a cute moment.
The other cute moment we had was that we have been watching some of the older Top Chefs that we own and Kiddo is INTO them. We were getting toward the end of S6 (we started there as J and I liked the group of chefs) and Kiddo wanted to make a bet on the winner. I tried to dissuade her, but she insisted on one of the chefs. I, again, told her that she did not want to make the bet, but she did anyway. If Bryan won (her choice), I would buy her a new stuffed friend, if he didn’t, she would stay silent during dinners for a week, since she’s been a chatterbox during dinners recently. We got to the end of the season and low and behold, Bryan didn’t win. J then asked, “Why’d you make that bet with Dada when you knew he’d seen this before?” The look went from unbelieving to WTF did I just do to awe man to betrayal that we would make that bet with her. All without words, just the look on her face over about 1 second. J and I laughed for a good 2 minutes straight.
It was a good break. They are back to it today and they go on Saturday as well, so only a one day weekend, but they’ll survive. I had errands this morning, but I’m planning on doing nothing the rest of today and thru the Brewers game tomorrow. Game 4 v the Cubs and they can close it out with a win. Let’s go Brew Crew!
We also had a playday with H last Saturday before the Sunday school day and then the week off. H and her family traveled (like many others) during the break, so it was nice to have one last day of fun. They made playdough. It was a hit…. And colorful.
Let’s go, Kiddo…. Back to it for now, but also, back to doing more than wondering what you’re going to do with me and Mumma all day. Back to friends, learning, fun, and all of that. You’ll have some small breaks here and there, but the next big break is CNY and Vietnam again. Plus, we’re planning on Chiang Mai and elephants. So, keep at it and before you know it, you’ll get warm weather, beaches, elephants, pho, and all the rest. Keep being awesome and we love you.
