The Natural State of Turtles
Before we started this adventure, while living in California, we had a term for Kiddo. It was DB, Diaper Babe. It seemed that as soon as Kiddo could stand, she was trying to get out of her clothing or jammies. About half the mornings when we’d go to collect her from her crib, she’d have one arm out and as she got older we’d walk into see DB just waiting on us.
Then, she got older and DB became UB, Undie Babe. It’s always been her natural state, we think. In CA, she’d get home from Miss Mabel’s and want to strip down to her undies, charging around the house at 3 and 4 years old in undies and a fluff. That’s her other thing, fluffs. Anything that is fluffy and soft she loves and will wear those sweatshirts or pullovers…. With just Undies. Her natural state. Even in BKK, Beer would leave or on weekends, we’d come back from the pool or just being out and J and I would hear, “Can I be an Indie Babe?” When she got cold, she’d wrap up in fluffy blankies. Why were clothing when you can just UB and Fluff?
We, this last weekend, swapped out summer clothing for winter and cool weather gear. Vests, pants, long sleeve shirts, and layers are back on the menu. Also, a LOT more fluffs. After a morning of swapping clothes and then lunch, we had rest time. It’s where we all take an hour off. Nap, rest, read, chill, whatever. J and I usually hole up in the bedroom, reading or napping or just chatting and chilling for an hour. On this day, we napped because Friday was a day (I’ll get to it) and we both just turned off for a bit. I woke after 45 minutes and crept out of the room to give J the extra time to snooze it out. I walk out to find Kiddo playing with her magnet tiles and humming to herself. That’s another natural state for her…. The Songbird, as Miss Mabel used to call her. Constantly humming and singing songs to herself or her friends. However, I had to laugh. There she was, Kiddo in her Kiddo glory. Fluff sweater, UBing it up, and wearing her Fluff Muffs (Fluffy Earmuffs) on a 20 degree (68F) day. Kiddo is just too dang much sometimes.
She did get outside for a while and had some bubble fun. Made a friend. Also, I don't have the vid and it's way too many of other peoples children, but at one point, Kiddo was the MC of Fun at the playground with about 2 dozen kids around helping her with bubbles or chasing and popping bubbles.
Friday was a school day, but we’d set up a playdate with H and that was going to be at her house and H’s mum invited Kiddo for dinner as well. That meant that J and I got to have a date night. J wanted to climb that day, so we decided to have a home date. I could make steak and mushrooms with asparagus and rice. Easy, delicious, and date night awesome. Open a wine and it’s even better. However, J woke not feeling great. It didn’t get worse and by Saturday she was back to herself, more of an allergy thing hitting her throat and sinuses hard, so we skipped the wine, but still had the steak. It did, however, kind of throw J off for a day or two and messed with her sleeping, as she went to bed super early on Friday and was up early on Saturday. Hence, the nap at Rest Time the following day. Sunday, she got her climb on in the morning, biking there and back on top of the climbing workout. Yeah, my wife is badass and fitness gangsta like that.
The playdate that Kiddo had was awesome for her. They munched snacks, walked and talked, did yoga and a fashion show, and even rode scooters. It was a kidtastic day and when Kiddo got home we let her skip shower and just kind of tossed her in the general direction of bed. We are pretty sure she was asleep before she landed. HAHA
Sunday was a Dada morning and Kiddo and I played while J climbed, but in the afternoon, Kiddo and J watched the start of Hocus Pocus to get in a Hallow’s Eve mood and ate popcorn. I went out to a local cafe and had some me time. The plan for dinner was to go get Ramen at a place we know. On top of that, Kiddo had outgrown some of her last year gear and so we went on a shopping spree after and Kiddo got a new pair of jeans, a new pair of pants in brown, a sweater and two or three new long sleeve shirts. I’ll get some updated Kiddo fashion pics soon, but I didn’t see the try on process and since they all fit, they basically came home, got detagged, and then washed. Yesterday was a gym uniform day and we were running behind today, so I didn’t get any snaps. They’ll come.
Also, on ramen, I got a new type instead of the typical ramen. I felt like mixing it up a bit. My food came with instructions. Yeah, beats me. It was tasty though. A filling. The noodles were very dense and more like a whole grain soba noodle.
As much fun and weirdness as we had in the weekend, the turtles took the cake. Firstly, Kiddo wanted to get a vid for H to show her how crazy the turtles got a feeding times. Little buggers are nuts!
Also, last night near dinner, I went to give Kiddo a 5 minutes heads up on eat time and we found the turts like this…..
TURTLES! Y’all are just beyond. We should get one more turtles because with these things I can’t even!
Let’s go, Kiddo… It’s getting cooler and you have new fluffs, new clothes, and a second winter to come. You’ll be fine and we get to spend February in warm climates, but that doesn’t change the now. At least we’ll get to see UB in Fluff glory for a few months. Maybe one day you’ll actually wear clothing at home, but I wouldn’t bet on that. It doesn’t matter though, you be you and we love you.
