Speaking of Cold

Break is approaching quickly and we are ready for some warm temps and good times.  It’s raining and cold today as it’s about 7C (44F) and windy.  Yesterday was better, it wasn’t rainy, but it was still cool.  We had planned on going to Century Park since it was supposed to be in the high teens to 20 degrees (62-68Fish), but it never got there and it was overcast and windy, so the feels like temps were nearer 9C (49F) and that is a bit too much to consider walking around the park and riding the rides there.

We tacked a different direction and headed out to one of the many museums here.  The girls had gone before, but they took me.  It was nice.  It was the artifact museum and the place is larger than you would think with 5 floors of displays.  We popped in and saw bronze items, some of the jade, and the pottery; some of which was 20,000BP or Late Paleolithic Era with a rough date of 22,000-18,000 yrs BC, so that was pottery and made items that date back at least 20,000 years, if not longer.  That’s Late Glacial Period, for those wondering, so the end of the freakin ICE AGE.  That’s a loooooong ass time ago.  I’ve posted pics if your wondering check April 2025 (I’ve got sand in my pockets, not hands) and that’s where we went.

We did pop out to the terrace and take some air after about 90 minutes inside.  Part of it was to break from the crowds and part of it was because we were in coats and dressed for the weather, but the temps inside were 22C if we had to guess (72F) and so it was nice to get some air.  Also, the view wasn’t bad so it was nice to just hang outside for a bit.

It was a nice family day and outing.  After that, we got to a plaza nearby that has a Shake Shack and we were going to indulge in burgers for dinner.  Plus, they have some climbing, swinging, and play areas for Kiddo and she could get her monkey on and get her rambunctious energy out.  J and I chilled and just watched her monkey about, but also talked about the upcoming trip and plans for the next week or two as J works for longer than Kiddo to do teacher stuff and meetings and trainings and the like.  So, we planned for that and J gave me Kiddo suggestions for how to fill a few days, not that I’m helpless, but J has all the info on museums, libraries, and play spots.  It’s in her wheelhouse more than mine, so I leave her to do the heavy lifting with the kid stuff and I handle the cooking, cleaning, electronics, turtles, etc.

The real highlight of the last week is that Kiddo will be preforming on Wednesday 21 February at school for her Chinese Class play.  She has one of the bigger speaking rolls and she was anxious about it, so I reached out to her teacher and asked for a copy of the script so we could practice.  Not that J or I can help when it comes to that, it’s all Chinese to us (haha), but Kiddo can read it all and practicing helps.  Even if J and I can’t understand it, we can listen to her flow.  That and repetition helps.  So, she’s practicing.  I mean, listen to this…. Kiddo knows her stuff.

Let’s go, Kiddo… I can’t wait to see you do your Chinese play and then, a day later, is your last day for over a month.  You get some play time with H, some Dada time, and some family time.  On top of that, you get to break in your new passport and get a stamp or two in that.  Soon, we will be in shorts and t-shirt weather all day again.
