Drink, Drank, Sober
I rolled the sleeves on a collared shirt last night, put on a pair of shorts that wasn’t ratty or obviously cargo shorts, and made sure I matched… Hat included. J did the same, putting on a light and casually nice wrap dress. Off we went, a night of cocktails and nibbles and fun.
Well, the best laid plans and all….
We found out, the hard way, that today is a “holiday” of sorts. It’s an election day. So, the night before, alcohol sales are cut off so people can be sober in the morning to vote. Alcohol sales are suspended until 6pm, when the polls close. 24 hours of sobriety. I’m pissed, we had a date night and a sitter. I’m impressed, what a good idea!
But we hired a sitter. Damned it!!!! HAHAHA
Well, at least we found one place and had a drink there before cut off.
The bar we were headed too was closed and so not much to do about that. We couldn’t, exactly, break in, make some drinks and hang out, clean up and go home. So… where to next? Look, that place is open. Let’s give it a look.
So, we discovered a cool place with a nice menu or drinks and food. We decided to have one. Other places were listed as open as well. OK, we thought, maybe it’s one of those holidays where you can’t buy beer or wine, some places close, but if a place is open, they are serving. Sadly, we gave up seats at the one place in all of BKK that might have been mixing last night.
We went with an alternative plan of heading to a Mall to find me an outfit for Baan Tepa. We did that and it’s very Asian/Oriental/Pacific orientated and inspired. So, the night wasn’t a total bust and we did get to have one interesting drink, some good nibbles, and completed a needed task. As for the outfit…. I’m keeping it a secret. It’ll be revealed in the post about our dinner at Baan Tepa. Stay tuned and see you for that reveal after 11 June.
However, back to the night when it was in “date mode”.
We walk into this cool place. Lots of reds and golds. Yup, we’re in Chinatown. But, it’s stuffed. Only a few open seats at the bar. We’re good bar sitting. So, we take it and pull out our phones to get the menu and start flipping thru and discussing. I almost punted and just went Whiskey Old Fashion on it, but I gave in to J’s peer pressure (No, get a cocktail. Let’s have an adventure) and got myself a Nobleman. J decided on the Drunken Mistress. Then, we flipped over to nibbles. A lot there as well, but duck dumplings sounded too too TOOOOOOO good and so we went with that. Order locked in and we sat back to take it all in.
As you can see, presentation and craft and care into each drink and dish. We are already talking about a date night and gettin back to this area and walking around. Looking to drink and eat more off the menu here as well. All in all, it was kind of a bust of a date night, but it wasn’t a complete disaster. And I can’t speak for J, but I had a lot of fun. It was unusual, strange, and a bit disappointing on the small picture side of it, but in the big picture, we got to have a night, an adventure, adult a bit, and then get home early to watch a show and go to bed. And… well, we got to try a new place and just wander into a place and to be excited and impressed by it. All in all, not bad.
This morning, upon waking, the sun was out, the clouds were scattered, and we were just having coffee and munching cereal and hanging out talking dinner ideas. Then, it got dark. Then it rained. And it wasn’t just some rain. It. Were. RAIN!!!!! And we also got to see a feral child eating cereal. We really do have a Mowgli. And she still talks and addresses her “friends” (stuffed animal toys) as real some of the times and will be pissed when they don’t answer back. What a strange and delightful little creature she is. Every single day, she does something that amazes and astounds us, while at the same time, every day she says and does something that just cracks us up.
Let’s go, Kiddo… It’s the rainy season. No, Dada… It’s the SUPER rainy season. (HAHA, she actually said that this AM and here's a random Dada/Kiddo walking at the mall pic)
