Can't stop the bop

Image
J has gotten slapped by the kinder germs this week and has a cold/sinus thing going on right now.  That means she’s worn out and not feeling well.  That takes a little extra effort on my part as I try to pick up some of the work and slack from her so she can rest, feel better, and chill.   Last night, after dinner, I was heading to 7Eleven to get myself a beer or two and get J a yogurt for the morning.  She asked me to get her a treat.  No problems.  Well, they were out of her treats and so that was a no go.  She was bummed, but life moves on. Around 20:15 (8:15pm) we had gotten Kiddo into bed and J was searching around for a treat to treat on.  I saw this and started getting ready to go out and pulled my shoes on.  J saw this and knew I was going to go to the other 7Eleven to check for treats.  She got all girly weepy that I loved her so much that I would go and get her a treat. Of course I’ll go get you a treat.  It’s a 5 mi...

On being brave

Image
I was laying in bed the other night and I was just awake and thinking.  I was thinking, specifically, about Kiddo and how brave she is in a lot of ways.  Moving across the world with J and I (not that she had much choice) was brave.  Quarantine.  Going to a school with mostly Thai kids.  Making friends.  Losing her tooth.  All of it.  She is so brave.   Even her attitude.  That want to see more of the world and to explore it.  Her willingness to go to markets with J and myself and eat bugs.  Last summer in Vietnam and just trying pho or banh mi while we walked down a street.  Getting lost with J in the rain in HCMC and having that adventure.  Her excitement to travel 30,000 miles this summer.  Her excitement for Shanghai and wondering how it will be different, better/worse, and what kind of ‘interesting and fun things to do” once we get there.   As I lay in the dark being a proud papa, I couldn’t help b...

Losing it

J and I are starting the process of booking and finalizing a bunch of things here.  Talk about a jigsaw puzzle of moving pieces.  We did tick LA off the list last night, so that’s one down… about 8 trillion pieces to go.   However, the excitement is starting to kick in.  Beyond that, we land in LA and get to spend five days bumping around and finding tacos, pizza, burgers, etc.  We will certainly Re-Americanize ourselves with our diet that first week back.  In N Out is near the top of the list.  Otherwise, we will be near the USC Campus and the museums and parks there.  Near Korea town and Chinatown in LA, so again, fun and food options.  Food prices will probably be a sticker shock, but we also hope to spend most of our time eating at little mom/pop shops and the local places. LA would be good, but The Bay will be better for us to try to eat Thai.  THAT will be an experience after the last three years.  Especially if we walk i...

Getting the wiggles out

Friday night ended well enough.  Kiddo and I ended up getting pancakes and chicken bites at Plurn Dee for dinner.  Well, she got that and we got a green Fanta (melon flavor?) from the coke slushee guy.  Kiddo ate well and loved it, her tooth was feeling better and she was generally back to good. Oh, and I got a pic of the big ceiling fan! Kiddo wanted to make a video. Other than that, J had her thing and was home right about 19:30, so Kiddo got a full tuck in from both of us.  While J was giving her a little extra time and love and I went over to Plurn Dee to get J and myself some Krakow.  It was wonderfully spicy and delicious.  We did have one get up and worry about the tooth, but that was quickly assuaged and we got to chat and adult and do, instead of an encore of Weeping Beauty. Surprises kept coming on Saturday morning when we got to sleep in an extra 15 minutes as well.  Kiddo was back to her normal self and proceeded to crush a pear, hal...

The Adventures of Weeping Beauty

Being 6 is hard. There’s a lot to take in. You grow, change, understand more complex ideas and thoughts.   There’s SO much to learn.  5 days a week and 8 hours a day.  That’s a lot for a little person to take in. Then, you get your first loose tooth.   Right lower front tooth. The world will end!!! I get it.  Trust me… I get it.  I’m the poster boy for dental work.  Heck, I had a root canal over the summer whilst traveling in Vietnam.  I can tell you about teeth and mouth pain. Kiddo however…. Sigh! Last night, J and I were enjoying a beer I found here.  It’s an IPA and local brewed.  It’s decent.  Not great.  Not amazing.  Decent.  Certainly it does the job to scratch the itch.  Anyways, we were using Google Translate to read the printing on the can and trying to enjoy making the driving of the vehicle sweeter, but someone who shall remain unnamed couldn’t even sleep.  At least we had the ...
