No hugging!
Kiddo is in a phase right now. She has adopted a zero sum policy when it comes to love. I posted something in the past (link for reminder) about J housesitting for some people while in college and how the dog, Souska, would always try to nose into the middle when J and I hugged. Kiddo has that spirit and doesn’t like when J and I hug. We always hear, “No love for meeee????”
Hugging has become a thing.
The other night J sent Kiddo to her room to get a hair tie before dinner and when Kiddo scampered off to get that, J and I took a second to have a hug and hello after the day. J was just home from work, Nanny Beer just left, I was cooking, so we had a hug. From Kiddo’s room we hear, “You aren’t hugging without me, are you?”
We’ve explained that we can hug and it just means we love each other. Kiddo will always retort, “But no love for meeeee?” We try to explain that just because we (J and I) love each other, that doesn’t mean we don’t also, simultaneously, love her. She’s struggling with this.
A night after that hair tie day, Kiddo was getting ready for bed. She had taken her allergy meds and done her nasal sprays and was just brushing her teeth. J and I were just waiting on her and hanging out so we could do tuck ins. While Kiddo was stuck brushing her teeth, I gave J a hug. Of course, the Souska in Kiddo was having none of it. She started actually whimpering. She started brushing quicker and just as she finished, J and I broke the hug.
Kiddo surveyed this with suspicion. Then, in a very curious yet accusatory tone, she asks, “Do you guys hug at night when I’m sleeping?” The way she asked it was too much. When we informed her that, YES! We DO in fact hug at night sometimes. She was NOT happy and threatened to stay up all night to keep us from hugging.
It’s all her age and a phase, so it’s no big deal, but it is funny as heck.
Another phase, and one we hope stays forever, is Kiddo at night. Sometimes, if you can believe it, she can’t even fall asleep. She can’t even get comfortable, there are blanket problems, she has hot/cold problems, etc etc. Anyone reading this who has parented will know what I’m talking about. When you walk in to help because you hear something and some rambunctious rumblings and see this, it’s hard not to just melt.
That was followed up this morning with her coming into our room while we were having coffee and chatting and doing some weekend and summer planning. She burst in to let us know it had started raining. So, it looks like the rainy season is nigh. Kiddo, however, was in full excitement mode. We’ve lived here 2+ years Kiddo. It rains. But, if you need to come in and share that with us, then great. She was in her natural state of Jammie top and undies. Yes, believe it or not, I edited in the PJ pants. ;P
Nights, however, can also be full of activity. On Thursday night, J went climbing at the gym. Kiddo and I were at home. Of course things didn’t go smoothly. Why would they? LOL
This happened. I left Kiddo to go talk to the desk and get engineering up. They tried to fix it, but the brace had failed and needed to be replaced. That would have to be Friday (yesterday) morning. This was the overnight solution. See, Kiddo, wouldn’t you rather have me and Mumma hugging?
Let’s go, Kiddo… it’s the weekend and we’ve got some plans for you and us. We’re gonna have some fun and do some fun stuff. We will all hug and love and have a good time and hopefully the router stays in place. HAHA. We love you and we can’t wait to blog more about the fun. Maybe we can even do a Kiddo vlog post.
