Going Big, Going Home, and Going for the Risk!

There are some games that I play that Kiddo watches that are one run type games.  Action adventure type button mashers.  Hades and Rogue Legacy II and the like.  For the old skool folks out there, think Super Mario Bros.  You win or you die.  Only, the dungeon/castle/levels all change or differ each run.  Sometimes, you bump into a “secret” or “treasure” room.  These usually contain harder enemies and harder fights, but give bonus weapons, gold, magic, bonuses, whatever.  The first time Kiddo saw me go into one of these, I used the phrase, “GO FOR THE RISK!” and charged in to get my butt kicked.

However, GO FOR THE RISK has become a buzz phrase for Kiddo and I.  When gaming and I’m going to go for something bonus or hard or extra, I’ll say, Go for the Risk, usually with some flare and emphasis in my voice.  Kiddo usually wants me to play it safe and not.  This is where J comes in.  She saw this once, saw me going for it and Kiddo freakin out that I shouldn’t and J told her, “In this family, we Go BIG or we go home!”

I mean, we live in Bangkok, Thailand.  Go for the risk and Go Big or Go Home are basically baked into our lives right now.  Also, Kiddo has gotten into it a bit.  Go for the risk, Dada!  Time for a boss fight, go big, cuz Kratos isn’t going home!  Things like that.

Some nights, we get love notes from Kiddo.  Last night’s summed up Kiddo and her thoughts on the summer and life to come.  GO BIG!

The three hearts are J, Kiddo, and myself.  The three under the rainbow are us traveling and having a family summer in Mexico and the States before Shanghai.  She gets it.  Go big and go for the risk, because why not.  What’s the worst that’s going to happen… we’re going to die.  Realistically, though, we are going to have some uncomfortable bowels for a few days?  We won’t like the people and the culture and we will move on?  Realistically… Not that bad.  So, GO BIG!

Moving on from that, I went over to Plurn Dee last night to get J a coconut smoothie and get myself a fruit smoothie.  Fruit smoothie guy only had apple and tangmo and he blends in the seeds.  This agitates my stomach and diverticulitis and so I avoid.  Thankfully, coke slushy guy was there!

Told ya it was COOL!

Also, I got some pics of Plurn Dee- inside and out - to give y’all a sense of the place.  It’s nice.  Vendors are great.  Food is amazing (from what we’ve tried so far; about 1/2 or so) and lots of variety.  On top of that, it’s right across the road and the prices are great.  25 baht for the coke slush, 40 for the coconut smoothie.  That’s about $2 in USD.  How can you pass that up.  Also, the vibe is very… Thai.  You’d need to be here or know here to know what I mean, but it’s chill, but busy.  Functional, but fun, with the vendors chatting or joking back and forth.  It’s just, like the name, delightful.

Also, we went out to Hot Pot/Shabu that other night at a place just up the road.  It is, as a matter of fact, right next door to me as I blog.  I can look up and see inside of the restaurant.  The woman who owns/runs it is very kind and always gives me a wave or entices me in for lunch or asks when I “bring back wife and girl”.  We pop in about twice a month.  It’s good and Kiddo loves it and J and I can get our half with spice, so it’s a nice mix.

We now have a voracious little reader and she wanted to bring a book to read while we waited for food or as J and I made the pot and got things ready.  Her and PorkChop were just loving it.  She also brought her art folio, just in case she needed to color or write a Ranzan scroll.

Usually, she munches and then taps out when J and I are at about half way.  Part of that is because she doesn’t eat as much as J and I eat.  The other part is that at the start of the meal, we both fret over her to get her settled and situated and munching.  She’s usually on her second bowl before J and I start on our first.  Therefore, she is done early.  Seeing as she is about 0.0000000001% fat since all she does is run, jump, or excite all day, she was cold in the AC.  Well, we forgot to toss her sweater in J’s bag, we couldn’t do much for her.  She wanted to sit outside to “warm up”.  Aside: Shanghai winters are going to be the bane of her existence.  We can see out the windows and she knows not to go to the gravel, so all is good.  She grabbed her book and went outside to read.

Call me 3… because I can’t even!

She sat for about 5 minutes before she came back in and wondered when we were leaving.  So, there is that, but her sitting on the stoop and just reading to herself melted me.

Let’s go, Kiddo… It’s time to go for the risk and go big, because we are us and that’s what we do.  Thanks for being the best thing we got and we can’t wait for the adventures to come.
