An Ear Story

Image
Yesterday started with J not sounding great.  She has been battling a sore throat and on Tuesday morning, she hardly had a voice left.  She was at a croak, at best.  Kiddo asked if I could make Mumma some soup for dinner to help with her throat.  Great idea Kiddo. At about 17:30, Kiddo was complaining about her own throat and ear a little.  I gave her some Tylenol and hoped that it would ease whatever Kiddo had going on.  We were thinking and hoping that it was just her tooth and part of mimicking J.  She had dinner and then we showered her and all that.  She was just tired. J couldn’t speak, so they did some iPad reading and used the Epic app for books.  When it came time to do Video Games with me, however, she wanted to “just cuddle and you can tell me a story, Dada.”  Obviously, something was going on. We cuddled her and got her comfortable.  About 20:40 we hear her sobbing in her room and we went in to see if we couldn’t h...

It’s been an odd weekend.  Kiddo hasn’t been at 100%.  She’s been complaining of headaches and being tired and she’s felt warm.  We COVID tested her - negative!  Thank the maker for that.  We’ve been all over her temp and with a thermometer.  All below 38C (100.4F) so no worries there, but she’s not been really hungry either.  Last night, however, she complained of it hurting in her mouth.  No wiggly teeth.  Way in the back we finally saw it.  A small poke of white in the back.  Looks like a molar is coming in.   Friday and Saturday were both like that.  In fact, we were a little panicked when she hardly ate on Friday night and was hot and tired and just not feeling it.  She was so out of it that she volunteered to go to bed at 19:10 and we put her down and she stayed down. It’s made for a slow and chill weekend however.  Not going fast or hard.  Just chilling and letting Kiddo set the pace.   Wak...

Pic post and life

I’m just back from a performance at the Black Box at BASIS.  Kinder did a thing and I loved going and seeing Kiddo do her thing.  I also needed to go to Tops afterwords for some dinner things and since I had my backpack with me, Poley snuck along and came with to see the show.  He and I had a GREAT time.   Otherwise, just a pic dump.  Kiddo and J got to go to a performance earlier this week and see the Music of the Night show, which was amateur musicians preform some Andrew Lloyd Webber songs. Otherwise, we just had some fun.  J knitted a shirt for Kiddo, hot pink, and it was a hit.  She needed to wear it to school.  We sent her an extra shirt, just in case, but after school she told me that it was super comfy and she wanted to wear it forever.  In fact, the first time she tried it on, she saw it was a little big on her- “Oh Good.  It’s a little big so I can live in it for a while.”   She’s too much. Lastly, I love the note...

On Being 6

Image
I’ve recently finished Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series, again.  In 1999 King was involved in an incident with a driver where he was struck by a van and seriously injured.  Along the way of finishing, King updated the narrative flow of his first book in the series, The Gunslinger , and in that, he added a new forward.  On Being 19 .  (web version linked if you want to just give that a read).  It has some significance in the books (as the readers of it will know) and I’m sure some of it was ret-conned by King to fit the narrative he wrote. In the forward/essay, King wrote on what life was like at age 19.  How you are full of hope and ambition and life.  You haven’t gone grey or started losing your hair yet.  You could stay up all night, shower it off, and then keep going.  You didn’t have a wife, kids, a mortgage, or an agent breathing down your neck.  It was the best age, because you didn’t know any better at that age and everythi...
