Shot in the dark

Bosnia has had some mass shootings.  Two of them to be exact.  The last one was 9 days ago.  The country passed swift and serious reform laws and a governmental buy-back program.  IN 9 DAYS!

Meanwhile, in MuriKKKa, half the country is screaming for reforms and Congress just seems to ignore that.  200+ mass shootings in 132 days.  Also, though, in those 132 days, 67 laws have been passed denying rights to LGBTQ folks with another 322 pending across state houses, 14 laws restricting abortion with another 6 pending, 2 states have decided that it’s cool if 14 year olds work manual labor jobs until 9 or 10pm and 11pm on weekends, and Congress decided that… Since inflation is bad, that should reflect in campaign contributions.  Oh, this was right after they voted that minimum wage shouldn’t increase because “inflation doesn’t affect every day Americans”.

How can everyone not see this for what it is and how dangerous it is? 

I no longer have patience for it.  It makes my skin crawl to see the news and still see so many people cheering on and saluting Trump.  I don’t get it.  I don’t get the celeb worship culture and attitude.  And not just Trump, anyone.

I’ve worked in a lot of places and done some really odd and interesting things in my career (pizza to be flown to S America where it would be delivered by a sea plane, a Royals Royce underwater turbo engine, a rescue crew for a ship floating south near Cape Horn) and I’ve met dozen of celebrities.  I was courteous and polite, but any ass kissing that happened was a matter of my job and not my personal preference.  They are a human, so am I.  They happen to be good at a sport or pretty enough for TV and Hollywood to want.  So, because of a genetic flaw I should worship them????

And people who are influencer or politician famous.  STFU!

I have plenty of little anecdotes I could share.  Robin Yount, Horace Grant, Danica McKellar, MC Hammer, Paul Allen (for the tech peeps), David Chang (for my foodies) or what about the one with The Golden Globes and George Clooney?  

You want the pics and autographs as proof?  Great.  I don’t have any.  You know why….????  Because I don’t worship celebrities.  But I have at least one person who can verify and back up each of these meetings.  I don’t need praise or proof.  I met someone who you might happen to know the name of and isn’t that cool.  Hey, I watched you play, sing, act, do, or thing and I enjoyed your talent.  I hope you have a wonderful day.  Moving on.

The longer we are away from America, the more I think that I can’t go back.  Not permanently.  Too many people who are only interested in themselves and what they want right this second.  And if that person, who is upset and wants a thing now is a white cis male 40+ from a middle class family or better and christian/cross wearing, well, it’s not just a Karen moment, but potentially a shooting.  People still, STILL talk about how Biden couldn’t possibly have won because they never saw that many flags and never saw a Biden hat!  Yes, because half of America isn’t a cult.

America deserves better.  Congress should be working on gun reform, an $18 min wage, punishing banks/businesses that exploit Americans and rob from those same Americans, a tax reform that ACTUALLY taxes top earners, and while they’re at it, maybe they can finally get around to passing the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment, which is older than me by a year and STILL can’t get 2/3rds) and maybe you can add another Amendment and call it the Digital Bill Of Rights and look ahead and protect Americans against online threats, exploitation, and data mining.

Nope, it’s all the LGBTQ people and not enough guns or Jebus in the classrooms!  SMH.
