A scar lets 37 floors go by sunset

Sadly, there will be no guest blogger today.  I got a call that an appointment opened up for a surgical consult on my ongoing vascular issues and so I am in the hospital clinic now and waiting.  But, at least my BP is good.  126/82 and my weight currently is 181, which is cool, because my last appointment on Jan 15th I was 130/88 and 186 lbs.  So, trending downward is great.  Plus, I feel like I’ve not been as active recently, so the fact that I’m trending good and getting more active…. All good stuff.

But, enough of my morning health stuff.

Yesterday was the day.  The night.  Big Girl Friday!!!!!!!!!

We took her to Scarlett.  She always was telling us that she wanted to see a rooftop bar and restaurant and eat there.  “I want to have a fancy fun night like when Mumma and Dada go out.”  So we did that.  And she was great.  Just a little doll.  And sweet.  And excited.  And awed.  Just watching her was magnificent.  Also, she tried everything.  Liked or not, she tried it all.

The trip into town was weird.  We got a Grab car (Uber or Lyft for my American folks) and that dude drove… Well, he drove.  Then, about 3km from the restaurant he started driving REALLY slow and turned the heat on and rolled down all the windows and said, “Heat.  Over.  Bad.”  Finally, in a traffic jam 400m from the destination, we just hoped out and walked it.  The night started with a little 5 min walk to the building.  We got to see a lil slice of Bangkok in the walk, so that was fun.

Upon getting there, we head up to 37 and Kiddo got to press the button and everything.  The one minute of video doesn’t do service to how excited she was.

It all started walking thru the lobby to the elevator and then with a view of the city.

We walk in and get seated in the outdoor patio area.  Great views.

Then we started ordering.  I had an Old Fashioned.  J got a glass of the house red.  Kiddo had a mocktail Mojito, since she LOVES mint and lime.

We then ordered food.  A cheese board with three cheeses and three meats.  Kiddo loves Parm, so we did some parm.  J thought she would dig Manchego so we did that.  The Monger recommended a truffle brie and that rounded it out.  That had a salami and parma ham that looked great and so we did that and the Monger further recommended a house chorizo and so we did that was well.  With the usual honey, pickled things, nuts, figs, etc.  With that, we also got deviled eggs with salmon.

Kiddo went nuts on that cheese board.  Just attacked it with yums.  She also loved the bread.

After doing that and nibbling on that for a bit, we wanted to get ahead of running out of food and so we ordered from the menu and specials.  The special board had a pork chop with polenta and Kiddo loves pork chop, so that was an easy choice.  We did experiment a bit and we got the duck leg confit with potatoes and spinach in a mushroom jus.

Again, kiddo ate.  She gave polenta thumbs down, but that was probably more of a texture thing, as she doesn’t really like “mashy tatoes” either.

All in all, it was great and we are both so very very proud of Kiddo.  How she acted.  Trying foods.  Staying up and out late.

Every eye in the place was on her all night.  The next youngest person I saw eating there was 14-16 years, but that is a guess and I’m bad at reading the age of Thai people, but there certainly weren’t any other kids under 10 eating.  That’s impressive… and unusual.  So, she was the focus of the people and staff around us.  Especially when food arrived to see how Kiddo would react.  And she reacted by trying things and asking for what she liked.  Or just grabbing it and eating on her own like a big girl.

Got a Grab home and she just laid on me and J and rested and was just a little love bug of cuddle.

Getting home was just bed ready and then sleep.  She was a little yawn monster at kissy time.

** UPDATE**

I finished up my appointment and all that I needed.  We are going to continue with meds for 6m more and see how things are then.

So, without further ado…..

Guest blogger vid!

As you can see, she had a great time.  We all did.  It’s a rare and unique treat to take an almost 5 year old to a place that will challenge her and her palate that much, the social norms and expectations of behaving like a big girl and using her words and inside voice to describe things, and navigating a world of teens and adults with no real friendly or common foods and her attitude and willingness to try… I’m amazed by our little love.  She is beyond herself.  I hope she stays this curious and willing to try her whole life.  What a quality to have!  Let’s go, Kiddo!  It’s time to try something else new and exciting.
