IT’S SONGKRAN!


Pictures and celebrations to come.  I posted a short vid to Instagram and Facebook so if you follow us there, you can see a small bit of it.  I’m posting it here as well along with the Kiddo getting in the mix as well. This place is quiet right now, but the cafe/restaurant across from us has a three day party planned and that promises to be off the hook.  Nanny Beer told us that Asiatique is one of the places to be today and that is our plan for the evening.  




We have no idea what this holds or what today will mean or be.  The excitement, however, is tangible.  In us, of course, but in the population around us.  We’ve had Thai people tell us that this is their favorite holiday in Thailand.  30something adults that are acting like kids.  And not in a get drunk and scream kind of way that some adults do, but in a giddy and fun and can we just play and have a water fight and wear bright colors and just be joyful and carefree.


For us, though, today has been lazy.  We had breakfast and Juice Lady was at the market, so I could get us some juice as well.  Kiddo and J went to the pool to get some sun, give the Kiddo some run, and eat some watermelon.  Last night and then this morning, I also got to the roof to get some cute pics of J and Kiddo, but also to show off the work being down here.  It’s mostly shut down this week for Songkran, but this is the update as of now.  Lot got done.











Other than that, not much to report right now.  It’s slow and lazy today and will be the rest of the week.  Today will be an adventure and experience and we can’t wait for it.  


Oh, and before I go…..

We talked with our friend Branka today.  She mentioned that she is an avid reader of this blog and so I wanted to send a hello to her here.  She also mentioned she was having trouble posting.  I’ve had similar problems, both in commenting back to people and (occasionally) in posting this blog, especially with pics.  Clear cookies and history, log back into your google, and comment/post.  It’s what works for me.  So, hopefully that will clear up issues any of you might have.  And Branka, sorry you couldn’t post/comment.  We love that you want to be involved and participate.  Anyone else want to do the same, please do.  Oh, and B…. You gonna come visit alone or bring your two monkeys with ya?  Either is fine with us.  Smiles and hugs and I’ll post again on the back end of whatever Songkran is for us.  Cheers for now and let’s go Kiddo!  It’s Songkran time!

On being brave

I was laying in bed the other night and I was just awake and thinking.  I was thinking, specifically, about Kiddo and how brave she is in a lot of ways.  Moving across the world with J and I (not that she had much choice) was brave.  Quarantine.  Going to a school with mostly Thai kids.  Making friends.  Losing her tooth.  All of it.  She is so brave.   Even her attitude.  That want to see more of the world and to explore it.  Her willingness to go to markets with J and myself and eat bugs.  Last summer in Vietnam and just trying pho or banh mi while we walked down a street.  Getting lost with J in the rain in HCMC and having that adventure.  Her excitement to travel 30,000 miles this summer.  Her excitement for Shanghai and wondering how it will be different, better/worse, and what kind of ‘interesting and fun things to do” once we get there.   As I lay in the dark being a proud papa, I couldn’t help b...

A weekend in the life of Kiddo

We have our LA and SF trips set.  We are going to find some time this week to plan and set the Wisco trip and then the Mexico trip, but one step at a time.  J is looking at properties in MX for us and we will book that all soon.  Then, it’s just tying up life here, selling off our stuff, packing and getting ready to move and then it’s just airplanes, airports, and adventures. It’s not all busy work though.  We are still having some fun.   J needed to go to school on Saturday to drop off some of Kiddo’s stuff that she is repurposing to her classroom.  Puzzles and books that Kiddo aged out of and what better place than a Kindergarten classroom.  Perfect solution and better than trudging them into town and getting next to nothing selling them for credit only to acquire more books to drag around the world.  New books can wait for Shanghai, if at all, because J and I are on Kindles and Kiddo is mainly on the iPad and Epic for her books.  The l...
